Have you got a phono preamp?
It is not known why FuNkeNsteiN capitalizes his name as he does, though some speculate sunlight deficiency caused by the most pimpified white guy afro in Nordic history.

I shouldn;t need one should i? I thought i could plug it straight into my amp(phono?)

I can hear music; it's playing; just not loud even when i turn it right up. My speakers are 360w so it should be loud

What kind of stereo do you have? You have to make sure it has a phono input. If you put it into a regular line input, you won't get any volume because there's no preamp in the turntable.

When I first got my gear, I tried it out without a preamp (I had one though, but I just hadn't plugged it in yet wink ) and this is the exact same problem I had. Then I plugged in my preamp (... and a AC/DC power adapter to supply power to the preamp) and after that everything worked fine.

go to radio shack. its all in one box

I would send you my pre-amp as I have upgraded to an older B&O reciever which has phono input.
So the previous pre-amp I used is just collecting dust.
unfortuantely i dont know you smile

yes, the pre-amp is built into your reciver then.
older recivers are usually much nicer than new ones anyway.
and you can still connect your cdplayer, mp3,
or computer to them with the right connections.
go to a place that services old stereo recievers, turntables vcrs, etc.
usually they have a handful of them for sale.

Later upgrade to an old reciever.

I'm sure as you've figured out by now, depending on your amp (i'm assuming it's new) you probably don't have a phono jack on it and therefore you've got NO volume.

You either have to A) buy an older amp with a phono jack and a ground screw on the back or B)buy a phono pre-amp at Radio Shack/Best Buy/etc.

The problem is the makers of these new fancy Dolby Pro Logic amplifiers ASSUME that you're not going to hook up a turntable. And turntables unlike cd/dvd players aren't digital and need more power to boost the signal through the newer amplifiers.

You should be able to buy a pre-amp for about $50.
OR if you hit the pawn shops, you should be able to find a decent older amp for less than that.

Good luck, and if you have more questions ask!

Which would be the smart (and less expensive) thing to do thumbs up!

Read the above posts, it's been said 10 different ways. Use the picture of the preamp. It's what you need with what you have, get the power adapter too.
