Jordanian woman kicks butt! From the Jordan Times...
Woman slugs Zarqa thugs (F.Y.I. -an abaya is the loose fitting dress that many Muslim women wear over their clothes.) ZARQA (Petra) - Shopkeepers in Zarqa downtown stood speechless as they saw a veiled young woman take off her "abaya" and start clobbering three young men who had been harassing her relentlessly for three days. The woman, who has had martial arts training, knocked the three youths flat, in a matter of seconds, witnesses said. They said she had become fed up with the obscenities directed at her by the youths every time she passed through the area. The witnesses said the young woman took off her Islamic dress, put it aside and surprised one of them with fast and skilful kicks to the face and chest. The first two landed on the ground, screaming in pain, while she dealt with their friend judo-style. She grabbed him and threw him down on top of his friends. A shopkeeper said that the trio were always harassing women in the area. "I think they have learned their lesson this time," he said. The youths ran away stupefied and embarrassed, witnesses said. The only comment onlookers heard from the young woman was, "patience has its limits," quoting the title of a famous Arab song by Um Kulthoum. Great story, but if that had been an American woman confronting 3 American youths who had been harassing her on the street, the boys would either have been armed already, or they would picked up whatever was handy -- brick, rocks, broken glass -- and seriously injured that woman.
There was a story in the news a couple weeks ago about a man who was beaten to death in a Midwestern city by a mob of boys who jumped him armed with sticks, tree limbs, mop handles, and bricks. One of the boys who was arrested in the beating death is 10 years old.   | |

If that guy punched your kid, would you have gone after him? | |
