LOL - An Email That I Just Received Check out this email that I received today:
Dear Nancy: In a recent review of online resumes, I was impressed by your qualifications and feel that you would be a great candidate for the position of Site Moderator with TooSpoiled, a new kind of social networking site that offers the opportunity for models and actors to network with each other and with talent scouts. Site Moderators monitor the content of the site to assure that any inappropriate postings are flagged and/or removed. Site Moderators also look to prevent members from targeting minors on the site. Knowledge of HTML programming languages such as ColdFusion is preferred. The position is one that can be done from your home if you have a computer and an online connection. The salary for Site Moderators is quite competitive, ranging from $42,500 to $52,000 annually. Also available are performance bonuses, medical and dental insurance, a 401(k) plan, tuition reimbursement and other benefits. I hope you’ll apply for the Site Moderator position with TooSpoiled. To fill out an application, please click on the link below. If the link doesn’t work, just copy the address and paste it into your browser to go to the webpage. (website link snipped) Thank you, I am looking forward to receiving your application. Phillip H TooSpoiled This made me LOL, seriously! Why would I want to be a site moderator for ANY internet website, when there are so many kooks around? It takes a certain person to be able to moderator any site, and I know I'm not the one. That is why I give the moderators on the org so much credit. They do a tough job and do not get paid for it. Shoot, if I were a site moderator, I would not put up with any crap from anybody. I'd be banning people left and right. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

They will pay you $52K to read posts? And ban people?
Didn't you recently ask if there was such a thing as a dream job? HELLO????? This is it!
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
You do this at home, on your time, and there are benefits too?
Jump on it! | |

you could get a separate computer and a server at home for that kind of $$$$$ girl you better research this a little more before you turn it down off hand. We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry, and we must understand that all the threads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter what their color. Maya Angelou

I know I couldn't afford to get another computer and server for this, but I'm assuming that they would let me use my own computer. Perhaps I'd have to log in using a certain code or password. Maybe I should research this more. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

Well, I just took RodeoSchro and butterfli25's advice and filled out the online application. I got a message saying that they will contact me within 1-3 working days. Funny thing is, it seems like every time I do this, I never hear a thing from anybody. Guess it can't hurt to try, although I'm still not sure that this is what I want to do as a career. Plus, they're asking for experience using Coldfushion, which I don't know a thing about, I've never even heard of it before. I'm willing to learn it, I'm just not sure if they'd be patient and/or willing to have me take a class or whatever to learn how it works. Guess we'll just have to wait and see. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

Holy crap, everybody is saying it's a scam. I should have listened to the inner voice inside of me that was questioning it. Hopefully, these fools will never contact me. If so, I will report them! RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

I just sent them the following email: I sent you my application, but on second thought, I have reconsidered this "job opportunity". Upon further investigation of your company, I have found that your company is a scam. PLEASE DO NOT CONTACT ME, BECAUSE IF YOU DO, I WILL CONTACT THE POLICE! Thank you for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I also clicked the link to be removed from their email list. Hopefully it will work, or I will report them, most definitely! RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

It's human nature, especially when you've been out of work for a while, as I have. I think these scam companies target people like me, because they know that I've been unemployed for awhile, and that I might be willing to take whatever comes along. I wish these places could get shut down, but I don't know if it will ever happen. At any rate, I took my resume off monster.com and careerbuilder.com (for now anyway). I don't need any more weirdos contacting me. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.
