Battle recreation days Have you ever been to a battle recreation day? What battle did you recreate? Are they fun? How long do they last? I saw a documentary about a World War II recreation which was rather disturbing. It posed the question as to why folks were keen to dress up as Nazi Stormtroopers and getting their kids to wear Hitler Youth clothes. Anyway, battle recreation stories please.... This wasn't a battle recreation but I saw a tv show not long ago where the show hosts went to Old Town in Stockholm. They were dressed in a medieval way and one of them locked himself into one of those wooden wall contraptions where only your head and your hands stick out on the other side (not sure of the English name for it) and the other urged bystanders to throw rotten eggs and tomatoes and such things (which he provided them with) at the locked up guy's face. I was quite amazed by how willingly people did it, and they seemed to take great plasure in it too, throwing as hard as they could and laughing at the results. Some even walked up to him and rubbed the stuff all over his face, without being prompted to do so.

Nah, he was rather just following orders from the sadistic King of the TV show he worked for. and he get into the swing of things?
It didn't seem like it. I mean, he did it willingly, and it was supposed to be like a funny gag, but as he was getting all that stuff thrown at him he really didn't seem too happy with it. He had a very strained smile afterwards. Edit: Oh hang on, did you mean to ask if the king got into the swing of things? In that case no. [Edited 11/7/07 7:04am]

They have their camps set up similar to how they did back then. They wear clothes from that time period. They usually have food and crafts there as well. The ppl performing the reenactments take it very seriously, some travel around and do them all around the US.

It's hot as hell There is a lot of smoke and bugs A lot of noise The camps are amazing The cooking smells great The children in the camps are usually having a great time - I think they do not realize that their parents are pretending They treat the animals they use well I have some very amazing paper photos - If I had a scanner I would share them with you

Is their a prize for the winners? NO prize _ some are day events - some are weekend long and some go on every weekend for a month in a small town 30 minutes from where I live the actors come in and set up camp for a weekend on the college campus - no battles - just shows the camplife - the cooking and mending of equipmets and all the stuff
