Unless they don't have hands and then it's cool to watch them struggle. Going back to Raine's point though. What if you let the door slam by accident? Say if you're holding the door open, they say let it go it's fine and the door slams on them by accident. Surely you cannot be hold to account? It's a difficult one to judge when you go through a door, somebody's a long way off and you don't know whether to hold the door for them. How does one judge the door holding to distance ratio? I always open the door for a girl. I always let her walk ahead of me if we're gong into a room or out of an elevator, etc. etc.
If a woman is going to put up with being paid 20 percent less than men do in the workforce, the least I can do is be polite Of course, I work for a bigass corporation, so the way in which you present your politeness is very important. It only takes one woman to complain about you being chauvinistic to effectively end your career at this firm. Oddly enough, the more effeminate a man is, the more likely I am to do the same for him. Hell, I'd practically throw my coat down to let Prince skip light-footed on top of it in that regard. shit-spelling-edit [Edited 11/7/07 8:00am]

She then just said "oh" with a disenchanted tone of voice, gave me a weird look and slowly stepped in ahead of me. Swedish women are so weird. They mistake good manners for chauvinism all the time.
Thats too bad! Yeah, it's really unfortunate. It's bad enough that simple everyday chivalry is no longer seen as something positive, and even worse that it's viewed as something negative. That's certainly not how it's intended.

I generally hold the door open for folks... ...but then half the bloody street decides to walk through it ... ...and I'm left stood standing there like a goon as usual ...I try holding the revolving doors open too... ...but that just gets me confused

I try to always say thank you to those that do it for me Same. I don't discriminate when it comes to holding the damned door. It's quite the surprise when someone does it for me, however. Makes my day--I'm obviously easily pleased. Oh shit, my hat done fell off

I've always opened doors for females, but no matter what I'll hold the door for anyone. I often get a smile and/or a thank you, sometimes their facial expression says it all, it's like ...wow i can't believe this, you're opening the door for me.

I can open my own door, thank you very much. It's a nice gesture and I'm shocked when men go out of the way to do it, but I'm not upset when they don't.
