HELP FROM THE ORG!!!! ok, im not freaking out or anything, i have been on the net and talked to the doctor, so i think i understand that this is nothing to panic about...
but, has anyone seen a reaction to the flu shot? if so, what does it look like? my son, 12, received a flu shot from the doctor today... normally, i dont let them pass out injections at whim on my kids, but i was assured that there would be no problems with this shot and that it is very routine... my son went trick or treating tonight, but wasnt quite himself... then he came home and was SHAKING, bone cold for 45 minutes to an hour. he was starting to talk nonsense at one time near the end so i called and woke up the doctor to ask what the hell was going on... i was told to continue to wake him and make sure he could have a regular conversation and that his breathing was ok, and that he could continue to drink liquids. im a bit miffed because i ASKED about side effects and was told there would be NONE.... anyone seen anything like this? One of the best days of my life... http://prince.org/msg/100/291111

Don't listen to the doctor and don't let his lazy ass diagnose your kid over the phone. Take him to a hospital.
It could be anything. | |

thats what i thought, and i was getting very nervous, but the doctor didnt seem too upset providing he can continue to do the things i listed before. im taking him to sleep with me tonight, just to make sure he doesnt end up sick in the night. im sure he will be fine, im just wondering if this is a "normal" reaction... i haven't had the shot so can't speak to side effects although i do believe you can develop flu symptoms after getting the shot. i don't think there is ever NO possibility of side effects for any shot, just that the risk is small in comparison to the thing you are gaining immunity from. hopefully the symptoms will pass by tomorrow?

Something simular happened to my dad once and the doctor told him that u sometimes have flu like symptoms from the shot and I was also told that if u are on the verge of getting sick anyway u can also have a reaction.
My daughter has had a reaction a couple of times to other shots where her arm goes red and a rather large, scarey lump forms, and that if that lump spreads past a certain point I have to take her to hospital. Im sure he'll be fine If he gets any worse wkae that doctor up!!! PRINCE IS WATCHING U " When an Artist Creates, whatever they create belongs to society"
U can't polish a turd.. but u can roll it in glitter In my Profile Pic

The flu shot, has a bit of the flu virus in it, so he may be getting some symptoms but keep close to your doctor anyway.

Sounds like a reaction naked keep a good eye on him if he has any breathing problems or comes out with a rash take him straight 2 A&E, if ur worried in the morning get him checked over by the doctor
I am surprised that you where there are no side effects with a flu vaccine telling you there is none is telling lies - change ur doctor/nurse or whoever vaccinated him. 1: Do not have a flu vaccine if you have a allergy 2 eggs. 2: If you have had a previouse allergic reaction to a flu vaccine. Side effects with flu vaccine are as follows: Headaches, sweating, muscular pain, joint pain, fever, shivering, fatigue and local reactions this could be redness, swelling, pain, bruising around the area where the vaccine has been injected. These reactions are the ones you got 2 worry about: Skin reactions can spread throughout the body, swelling in the head, neck, including the face, lips, tongue, throat etc, convulsions associated with the fever and worst case is anaphylactic shock but it is very rare. If any reaction here happens go straight to A&E asap. I hope ur son is feeling much much better soon naked

I don't want to piss on anyone's rose garden...but...
In my opinion, the flu shot is nothing more than a placebo. The flu virus is a VIRUS. Viruses mutate. I find it highly improbable that a flu shot based on a virus from a previous flu can protect against a virus that has changed from what it previously was. I've come to the conclusion that the rotten egg smell of the flu shot is because the flu shot is made up of rotten eggs. I work in a business where I'm constantly exposed to diseases of all kinds and I haven't been sick (knock on wood) in a very, very long time. I couldn't be bothered to get the flu shot. All the same... I hope your kid is feeling better, hon. And you take a few deep breaths and keep in mind that everything will be okay.

I hate flu shots. Glad to see your son's on the mend Nekky
Like MadMonkey said, the flu is a virus and viruses change. The flu shot we get this year is based off information from last year's flu season. Most flu shots do not have the live virus in them anymore. To me, you should only get one IF you are at really high risk. I'm firmly planted in denial

Yes, this happened to my wife, although the sweating/trembling/chills came almost immediately after she got the shot. She was fine in a couple hours. I hope your son is OK. BTW, I got my flu shot this morning.

In the UK u only get the flu vaccine if you’re in one of the high risk categories, I believe this is the way it should be as I am not one that believes in over vaccinations. Naked never ever allow a doctor or someone in the health care profession back you into a corner or allow them to make you feel guilty or pressured, if your worried about anything tell them you want to see a copy of the contra-indications to take home and read first. If you still do not understand keep asking questions until you have peace of mind
