As for Casting?
NORTHSTAR and AURORA - First, they'd HAVE to be at least Francophone Canadians or Quebecois fans would declare war on the world. Next, they should both be young, drop-dead gorgeous, slightly inappropriately sexualized and divafied. I'd go with Theirry Pepin... and Emmanuelle Vaugier... MARRINA – I'd cast her as quite young and Asian. Stereotypically demure -- then, in the third act, I’d give her a showcase scene that completely steals the movie! I’ve no actress in mind, but I’m thinking someone along the lines of Japanese model Yoko Ogura... SHAMAN – An older, wiser type who has little tolerance for all these strange, superhero white folk ...but someone who could also poke fun at his stereotype with a dry wit. I’m thinking Graham Greene... SNOWBIRD – Also aloof to everyone but Shaman. And a bit creepy. An odd beauty with great presence, because I’d give her a bare minimum spoken lines. I can’t think of a Canadian, so maybe Tilda Swinton? PUCK – Uh… I’m lost on this one. But I’d play him a lot less nice than the books’ character. He’d be a cigar-smoking jerk, somewhat like Logan/Wolverine. GAURDIAN – Trash character. The only cool thing about him was his costume. I’d cast him here only as a former member, who now operates as their brain and their Department H liaison. (Maybe he suffered some tremendous physical or emotional loss in the field and has lost his heart.) David James Elliot might fit the bill... SASQUATCH – Tyler Mane is a given, assuming he can handle playing a genius. He’s a huge Canadian redhead... on the other hand, I like the idea of going completely against the book’s type and tapping a small, cuddly bookish actor like Brit Paul McGann. Neither some young sprite, some spiritualized one-with-the-universe type, nor someone PUCK would be inclined to like, he’d be a sympathetic oddball who’d be the GUARDIAN’s only confidante with regard to concern over political bureaucracy, mutant science, etc....
