Thank you for this wonderful and tasty contribution, KoolEaze. My journeys have not taken me to Turkey yet, unfortunately. But I certainly admire the texture of fresh oyesters. It's similar to that of Worms and Frogs: Crawly stuff is a stable source of protein. I recently ate plenty of them at the Balaw Balaw restaurant, an artist's gallery and famous eatery in Rizal province of the Philippines. The worms are the size of golf balls. The frogs in the Philippines are afraid of the worms.

The weirdest things in Turkiye/Turkey ( well, at least weird for North European palates ) are tripe soup and brain salad but I don´t eat that stuff. Other than that , the Turkish cusine is pretty much a mix of Greek,Turkish, Armenian, Arabic and Kurdish influences. Not much weird stuff going on , really. Just tons of fresh vegetables, lots of seafood and fish and of course all kinds of kebab and pizza-like baked stuff. It also depends on the region you go to. Istanbul for example gives you a good variety of all regional foods since so many people from other regions go there.
I prefer the Turkish food of the Aegaen region on the westcoast...tons of olive oil, vegetables and fish.

Have you ever tried balut eggs ? Do they really make you horny ? What about that cobra whiskey...did it serve its purpose ?
Curious gourmets want to know .

Yeah, I've tried haggis, nutria, balut, goose intestines, coconut grubs, callos (blood sausage and tripe casserole), fruit bats, and a still-beating frog heart, among many other dishes. I don't know if balut or cobra whiskey makes me horny .. I'm always horny, if you ask my wife.

Arabic

The only arabic country I've been to was Morocco (see pic below).

The food was amazing. I remember having dinner at the Djemaa El Fna in Marrakech - goat heads and a bowl of brains. Only members of the adventurous eaters club welcome.

I eat a lot of weird things, which makes your question tough to answer. But some of the weirder things were:

- Kangaroo (quite tasty; not at all gamey)
- Emo (also tasty)
- Bush tomato (berry sized about midway between a currant and blueberry; Yum!)
- Witchetty grubs (larvae of the ghost moth)
- Damper (variety of bread made in the bush)
- Bunya nuts (nuts from the Bunya pine tree)

And I actually ate camel in New York City, in Queens of all places! It was at an Egyptian restaurant. I found it to be grainy and fatty, but as always, completely worth the experience.

eek
