anyway, now Jamie is in a meeting, we can discuss this in a serious manner.

If for example, the askee isn't sure and wants to think about it, what should they do? Wouldn't it create a pretty bad rift because they couldn't say yes on the spot IN FRONT OF ALL THEIR FRIENDS shake

But yes I do think the pressure of it being in public has caused some 'yes's'

especially when its done on live tv

Horribly unfair. And I think the people that initiate them do so to pressure a situation that they're unsure about. And therefore deserve any humiliation they receive.

Your use of emoticons as an answer leaves me no choice but to think you are full of fluff.....giggle

To answer the question...

I think it depends on the person and situation. Mine was VERY public and it was fine and I thought it was very romantic. If it would have been private my answer would have been the same.

I met my beautiful wife Rishia in public, but I proposed to her in private. Does that still count?

We are still happily married, by the way.

Some what unfair. Because you don't wanna embarrass the person by saying no that you don't to marry them in front of all those people. Rather do that kind stuff in private
Some people think I'm kinda cute
But that don't compute when it comes 2 Y-O-U.

It depends on how public. I was proposed to in a restaurant mushy - the people around us were like, "omg how sweet." :That's fair. But at a football game is just unfair and wrong.
