Does Amazon give refunds for defective items no longer in stock? Today I received my order of two Gemini CD players with pitch and loop controls. I plugged everything in and one of the CD players works perfectly. However, the other CD player will not even acknowledge that a CD has even been loaded into it, let alone play it.
I ordered them last Thursday from Amazon's website and placed the order from their shopping cart. The order was shipped from a vendor called New Vista Sales so I guess that would make it a third party sale. I called Amazon on the phone and they sent me an email with a link in which to email New Vista Sales. The customer service person at Amazon told me to call them back if I don't get a response from New Vista Sales within three days. When I hung up the phone, I searched Amazon's site for the CD players sold through New Vista Sales and I did not see the particular model that I ordered. When I ordered the CD players Thursday, the website had listed that there were only four left so I'm assuming the other two have been sold already. They were only $59.99 each and I've seen the same ones on everyone else's website for over $100.00. I knew this was too good to be true. One of the CD players works and the other one doesn't. I guess my question is, if they don't have that particular model in stock, will they give me a higher priced one at no additional charge for my troubles? I don't think they will give a refund and, if even if they do, I don't think I will find the CD players anywhere else that cheap. Where does Amazon come into all of this? Will they refund me if New Vista Sales doesn't? . . [Edited 10/30/07 20:26pm] Andy is a four letter word.

I think you are going to have to deal with New Vista Sales, not Amazon.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/...er_sellers Thanks. I've already sent New Vista Sales an email this evening. I'm just waiting for a reply from them. The lady at Amazon did tell me over the phone to call her Amazon's customer service back if I don't hear from New Vista so I'm hoping that Amazon will do me right if New Vista doesn't. This is the reason I hate ordering stuff from the internet. It's so much easier to buy things from the store. . . [Edited 10/30/07 20:49pm] Andy is a four letter word.

Although it has its down sides, I buy most of my big purchases from online dealers. a psychotic is someone who just figured out what's going on

I don't buy equipment online for this reason. I need accountability!

Why wouldn't you buy equipment from someone like Musician's Friend (other than the fact that it is a subsidiary of Guitar Center )? They are as accountable as any brick and mortar store. a psychotic is someone who just figured out what's going on

I would rather pick up the product myself than be shipped some jankity-ass mess that is hell to return when there's a problem.

Price being equal, I agree. 50% off, I can deal with a little risk. a psychotic is someone who just figured out what's going on

If I had bought the CD players in a store (and there are no stores in my area that sell CD players with pitch controls), I could exchange it tomorrow with no problem and be shaking ass by the time the weekend gets here. Now it may be at least two weeks and that's only if they exchange it. Andy is a four letter word.

In 2001, I bought two CD players with pitch control over the internet with no problem and they worked just fine until recently. Believe me, they have lived their life and I have worn them completely out. During that same time, I bought two turntables with pitch controls from the same site. They were about $125 each. I did find some turntables with pitch controls at a store here in town and they wanted $500 each for them. They were at, of all places, not an electronics store but a store that sells musical instruments. Yeah, the internet is the only way I can afford the things I want. Andy is a four letter word.

OK, now I'm mad as HELL! You hear me? I'm PISSED! Today, I spent over $12.00 to ship the defective CD player back to the company and I got home this evening and starting playing CDs on the other CD player (I mainly play my music on the weekend). It would play all my original store bought CDs but it would only recognize very few of my recorded CD-R CDs and I have a ton of them that I recorded my vinyl on.
I just emailed the company and asked if I could ship the other back also and get a full refund on both of them. I mentioned in my email that I shipped the other one back at a cost of $12.00 and it would cost just as much to send the other back.....that is.....if they give me a refund. Does anyone have any advice? Once again, THIS.....I repeat....THIS is why I rarely order shit off the internet. I'm mad as hell. DAMMITT I'M PISSED!!!!! Andy is a four letter word.
