Yeah I could move to where there are tornados, hurricanes, floods, ice storms, blizzards, extreme temeratures and humidity, etc.....and technically there can be a big earthquake anywhere.

But they are more prepared for it in areas know for earthquakes. I was in the 1989 7.1 Earthquake that hit the SF Bay Area and only 60 plus people died (mostly where the cypress freeway collapsed) as compared to a 6.9 earthquake that hit Russia a few years later that killed over 10,000.

Ok... It's a bit hard to grasp living in a country that only has earthquakes of any noticeable significance every decade or more boxed

Too far away to feel it. But evertime I hear of an earthquake it kind of makes me nostalgic of the rolling earthquakes of my childhood. We don't get those anymore.

Hope everyone up North is okay, and not to many things got broken. I sure it gave you a start.

Don't get me wrong...earthquakes are very unsettling. Always strike without warning and you never know how strong they are going to be or how long they will last. When I am in an earthquake I immediately think "Is this the BIG ONE?"

With that said, in the SF Bay Area we don't get tornados, hurricanes....things like that. And we have probably the most moderate weather in the world. No blizzards, snow storms, ice storms, no high humidity, no extreme temperatures, not too much rain, lightning storms are rare as are hail storms, etc....

The only real quake I've felt was one about 6 years ago...

...it just sort of shook the bed a bit .. hardly frightning...

...not sure how I'd react in anything bigger.

All I know is when the big one hits, I want to be awake, on my side of the bay, and not downtown or on a bridge or freeway. I've been awoken by a couple of quakes when I was younger, and it's not a good feeling. I get panicky and nauseous, so I'd prefer to be wide awake and aware.

Yep!! I'm in San Jose. I just felt it. I say it was a 3.1 or so. I still feel a little dizzy from it.
