"Carolina Panthers rookie Dwayne Jarrett was at his locker Wednesday answering questions about his frustrating season when teammate Steve Smith walked by and interrupted him.

"Instead of talking to the media, why don't you go watch some film," Smith said
.

Jarrett broke into a half smile and started talking again.

"Seriously," Smith said, complete with his signature glare."

That's bullshit. Just because a team plays better than another. :disappoint: I'm not just talking about the Pats...I'm talking any good team or player. It's just wrong.

You may not like it, but it's a foreseeable risk. Don't shoot the messenger. I'm not the first one to bring this up, the national media and experts have touched on the issue.

http://www.courant.com/sp...5860.story

I completely understand what the Pats want to prove. All I'm saying is their methods could backfire. Suppose they're up big late, and in an attempt to try to score another 52 points, Brady blows out a knee on a scramble or Matt Light falls on him as he's trying to protect him in the pocket? The Pats aren't just rubbing it in, they're tempting fate. They better be careful.

uptownNY is right. If the Pats had tried this in the 70's with less quarterback-friendly rules, Brady might have been roughed up. Or the 80's for that matter. If you don't think a Ronnie Lott, Lawrence Taylor or Dexter Manley wouldn't have taken a shot under the same circumstances, think again.

Well, there's an unwritten rule in pro sports about not showing up the other team. Playing your starters when the game has already been decided is considered bush-league. There's no law against it, but there'll be a price to pay sooner or later. Believe me, if the Pats were getting embarrassed, Vrabel, Seymour or Harrison would deliver an extra hit too.

If a fight is out of hand, the ref stops it. In some amateur baseball/softball leagues, a "mercy rule" is declared. Football and basketball have no such rules, but it is customary (not required) for a team sitting on a big lead to run out the clock, or put their bench players in, or simply hold the ball. This is not only a show of sportsmanship, but an attempt to avoid serious injuries to your team's premier players.

History shows that this happens in the NFL, primarily because it's not usually a good idea to show up pros, because you might pay. Believe me, there's some measure of payback rendered in every NFL game for some minor cheapshot or insult. Running up the score is one of the top reasons cheapshots are delivered. We had 2 in basketball last year, in Duke/North Carolina and a Knicks game.

The Colts I don't think would cheapshot a player if they're on the wrong end of a rout. They have a very classy squad. But the rest of the Pats' division is filled with rivals fielding bad teams. If the Pats try to run up the score on the Jets, Fish or Bills, or some other team out of the playoff hunt, look out. Brady better be off the field or he's got a bullseye on his back.

And that's as much the Pats' fault as anyone else's.

Frustration for motivation Mr Smith. Steve has to realize he's dealing with a rook.

Why isn't he in the faces of Testaverde, Colbert and Drew Carter, well with the exception of the old man Vinny.

We've seen him explode on Carr lol, but this team is just having no luck due to injuries. I had Delhomme as a backup QB on my Fantasy team and had to ditch him.

Smith has always been a intense player, his mouth never quits.

I'm surprise his teammates haven't told him to bakthafukup and calm down.

This kid is getting paid high draft-pick money. You have to know that rookies can be rookies, but Steve-O knows more about this kid's work ethic than most of us do. I don't think this was an act of random frustration. It was likely something that had been building up for a while.

His teammates' (public) silence on the issue ought to tell us what we need to know.

In any event, USC rookies have developed a reputation for being diva-ish and expecting things to come to them. From Mike Williams to Leinart and Len Dale White to Jarrett.

Oh yeah...these young cats find out REAL quick that the NFL is no joke. It's a man's league. If you don't bring it every Sunday, you'll get your bell rung.

This is why a lot of stars from "major" schools flame out, and a lot of gamers from mid-majors or D-IAA/D-II schools have long, illustrious careers. Take TO. The Niners drafted a more heralded WR in the 1st round that was supposed to be the Second Coming of Rice. He had a pedestrian career, and TO, from a small Tennessee school, is one of the biggest stars in the game.

Look at Richard Dent, Jeremiah Trotter, Wayne Chrebet, et cetera. They all came from smaller schools because they knew they were going to have to compete against the best of the best. Some of the "big names" don't get that right away.

They're actually pretty high on Cassel. Sometimes it takes QBs years to learn the trade. Tony Romo (another small school product) didn't see the field for nearly 4 years. Now he's one of the biggest and richest stars in the Not For Long.

It always does. Phil Simms says at least 4-5 years. There's so much for young QBs to learn, plus the speed of the NFL game is insane. So many split decisions to make.
