It was pretty scary except for the ending which I thought was rubbish. That spider just looked like something out of a B movie. I still find 'The Shining' pretty scary and I'm surprised it hasn't been mentioned as of yet. The little girls and the tension that builds with the scene with the old hag in the bath tub frightened the piss out of me. I watched IT 3 nights ago. I agree the spider is not scary I wanted them to fight the clown clowns are scary

The Amityville Horror-
It came out when I was a little girl, so I remember watching it at the drive-in in the backseat, under the covers!!!

I think my vote goes to this one as well because of how possible it is that a psycho mental patient escapes and goes on a killing spree. They needed to stop that franchise at the first one. the rest was overkill but the original is one of the most effective horror films of all time, IMO. 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

It has be to be Exorcist for me. That movie is absolutely brilliant. I just watched it again the other night for the 100th time and it never ceases to give me the real creeps.
I have to add The Shining and the original Halloween. Both are great horror movies. [Edited 11/2/07 12:03pm]

All these are original versions. And these are my favorite, not scariest, as thread states.
Halloween Phantasm Series Alien Jaws The Omen The Exorcist The Living Dead Series (I like em all) Hellraiser 1 & 2 The Fog I like scary movies. Fantasy is reality in the world today. But I'll keep hangin in there, that is the only way.

This shit will scar you, bcuz it really scarred me! YESS!! I saw this when I was little, (my mom was too scared to see movies like this so she'd had us watch movies with her.....bad mommie!) and I jumped in my bed like for the next five years, fearing that horrible little doll would chew my ankles off. Exorcist, the Omen, Amityville Horror, and that Dracula (80's version forget full title) all receive honorable mention also

The Exorcist (I don't care how many times I watch it, but when the demon says "What an excellent day for an Exorcism.." I still get chills up my spine.) I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

I couldn't look in mirrors at night for 6 months after seeing that. Plus I said I would never go to Chicago either. Thank heavens I forgot about Chi-Town being connected to it and have made a couple of visits within the last couple of years (to see Morrissey in concert though. hehe) "When words fail, music speaks..." --- Shakespeare

I love Bruce Campbell! I didn't care too much for The Blairwitch Project though. "When words fail, music speaks..." --- Shakespeare

I love Evil Dead. The Auditionwas pretty good too. As was High Tension My favorite of all-time is Masque of the Red Death with Vincent Price. The colors are so beautiful in it. "When words fail, music speaks..." --- Shakespeare
