when you were young were you in band? or are you in band now? Ah! the coolest teenage cliche, it is that of being in a band!
I remember i was in 4 bands! to which i was kicked it out for various reasons. First Band! 80's goth rock/slayer inspired band "only theatre of pain"..tho! we did practice, and we wrote like one song, and mostly did covers..the band broke up when they asked me to play bass, i coudnt play at all...i was kicked out secondly, a black metal band called "rain", it disbanded when i realized it was a stupid idea and got kicked out. with my sister we formed the satire of death band called "japanese business men" we wrote about 3 songs, one was called "cookie monster storm"..this band only lasted a day. at one point, being influenced by kraftwerk and late 70's bowie, wanted to form a electro-isolationist band called "crimson mirror" to which i never actually bought actual like synths..so i was kicked out of my imaginary band.. Lastly, the serious band i do actually want to form is something of a juxtaposition of classical music/japanese traditional music and rock n roll..i just need musicians to tone up on my bass playing. but what about you?

I joined a band of 3 guitar players who just wrote songs at home. I came with my keyboard and drum machine and we started writing more songs and just of rehearse them at the basement.
We had quite a few songs, some we recorded. It was pretty fun. Oh, and our name was Fish Fish Garden. [Edited 10/26/07 18:16pm]

My first band was a blues-jam type band called "Smokestack Lightning." Just fucking around in garages and shit.
A 2 dudes left that band so were down to a 3-piece and called ourselves "Scrapyard." After that I joined this band called "Spoonful" which was a strict blues band. It was one dude, who was forty, his brother who was in his late 30's, and my drummer friend was a year or two older than me. I was in there for about a year, but the age gap got to be a real problem to me, so I quit..... Been looking for a band since then..... Maybe we can go to the movies and cry together

i was in a band for about a year when i was in college. we were a six-piece and we did a jumble of stuff, based on what songs we wrote or who wanted to sing lead or be in charge of each song. we did some rockabilly, some alterna-jangle, some industrial, some glam rock...it was fun and schizophrenic and we did pretty well with it. i quit after about a year and tried to start another band and we lasted about six months and only did one show, but it was one GOOD show so at least it wasn't a waste of time, i guess.

I was schooled on blues and rock and roll. I think classical CAN be mixed with rock. But only when done right. Deep Purple for example is a band that uses a couple classical devices. The solo section of "Highway Star" has a Bach progression behind it....it can be done, but only in small doses and stuff Maybe we can go to the movies and cry together

I was in a band with two of my friends in the 4th grade. We called ourselves the Rad Girls. Yeah, it was the late 80's. I had a Casio keyboard. All of us fought over who should be the lead singer. We would put our change in a jar to save up for instruments but we would usually end up spending the money on candy. The band was Debbie Gibson & the Bangles inspired. I was the song writer. The Rad Girls eventually disbanded because of the other member's noncommitment. Those bitches!
In high school, my friends & I started a mock band called Psychedelic Barbies on Crack. I played the tambourine and was also the interpretive dancer of the group. That band was a weed & LSD inspired band. Shake it til ya make it

But now I'm in a band! would care to talk about it? I am strictly classically trained, so it was all orchestras or chamber groups for me. Then I joined the Punk Rock Orchestra a few years ago www.punkrockorchestra.com We played classic punk rock songs and some classical pieces punkified. The PRO disbanded but a few of us have resurrected a sex-y-tet using the same material. Now we're violin, cello, oboe, bassoon, drums, and two vocals.

I was in a band called LoveSlinky.
I think they (we) have a myspace page, but I haven't looked it up in a while. www.myspace.com/loveslinky ? yep the link works edit. [Edited 10/29/07 21:40pm] Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it. |

I was in school bands and choirs throughout my childhood. Gospel groups throughout college.
One such group was playing at a banquet in DC. In walks former Mayor Marion Barry, while I'm playing a jazz guitar version of "I Want Jesus to Walk with Me." Talk about surreal gigs... I was briefly in a band of some friends from my college. They get critical reviews and have been "on the verge" for a while. A gospel group I was in for a couple of years cut a CD. I'll never forget hearing a song of ours on the radio. It was one with one of my guitar solos... Good times.
