For my fellow comic geeks: Captain America's NEW Costume

Just because he is dead that doesn't mean he can't get a new costume...

http://marvel.com/news/co...ories.1640

Alex Ross designed it. ( Note to Mr. Ross, I love your artwork, but you SUCK as a costume designer)

At least the Winter Soldier will have a distinct look once they make him the new Cap.

Did I mention that I actually enjoy reading Captain America even though Steve Rogers is dead? I think Ed Brubaker is a good writer and Steve Epting is a great artist. biggrin

I'm waiting for the conclusion to World War Hulk, when he takes on the Sentry(a lame character, IMO).

I don't think the design itself is so bad as much as the color scheme. In color, it looks like two different costumes melted together.

Captain America.....with a gun.

.
How can anyone who understands and respects what comic book heroes are about take this as anything but an insult? Have we time-traveled back to the stone age?

I immediately thought the same thing. They used the Punisher costume from the skull down.

I hate Marvel, though. I had boxes and boxes of Marvel comics in the 80s, but in 1989 when they brought back the original Red Skull, they started to lose me. My infatuation was REALLY over when they did that whole "Peter Parker's parents are still alive/oh, no wait, they were just clones." I heard they just did an angle where Norman Osborn fathered twins with Gwen Stacy. YE GODS!

This new cap isn't Steve Rogers. Steve would never carry a gun.

That Gwen Stacey story was J. Michael Straczynski's lowest point. The Spider-Man titles are still a mess. Marvel overall is better than it was in the 90s, but there's still a lot of fixing that needs to be done. With the convoluted histories of all their characters, I don't know if they can be fixed.

this is old news to me razz but either way it will be interesting to see where they take this and who if anyone can replay good old Steve as Cap! I highly doubt it will be Bucky cause well he still doesnt think himself nor anyone else worthy of putting on the suit.

One thing im waiting for tho is the "What If: Civil War" comic to come out, imagine how thats gonna pan out Cap working for the Super Hero Registration and Iron man with the rebellion!

Personally I think the Captain America character should stay dead along with Steve Rogers. The new C.A can't be all that great if he needs to carry a pistol. When Steve Rogers threw that shield at an enemy, It was more deadly then any gun.

i don't see a problem with carrying on the captain america concept, but i agree with you. the character as we know him should be put to rest. i think maybe a team of supersoldiers with variations on the CA costume, from retro to futuristic, which was created in honor of CA might be pretty cool. shrug

i could forsee them doing something like that, like getting some DNA or something silly off his dead body and creating a mass army of clones or something?

He is Captain AMERICA, with your right to bare arms, an icon of America SURELY has to have a gun.

Weather guns are good or not is a societal issue for the US. But as long as the constitution states that it's ok, the Cap has the right to bare arms too.

As long as they don't resurrect Steve (i mean i liked him but i think once a character dies he should stay dead: all these resurrections r ridiculous)...
