Funny, when I was watching the F-18s fly by I was thinking to myself "how cool would that be to see them fly over your house!". 10 points, LOL. Honey, in baseball, they're called "runs". Ya ya whatever. Points, runs, touchdowns, pars, baskets....it's all the same to me! [Edited 10/25/07 9:47am]

What about the whole concept of "Red Sox Nation"? Doesn't that extend to the org? I only count three fans so far on this thread.

I'm a lifelong Yankees fan. What do you think about that phony "lifelong Yankess fan" Rudy Guiliani rooting for the Red Sox? Phony is right. Any real Yankees fan knows you never root for the Bosox under any circumstances. Rudy is just trying to get votes.

What about the whole concept of "Red Sox Nation"? Doesn't that extend to the org? I only count three fans so far on this thread. That's one of the reasons I started this thread. Even here in Boston everyone seems pretty subdued about it. In 2004, the energy around the city was palpable even just walking down the street. Everyone talked about it non-stop. Everyone has stories in retrospect (I saw Dave Roberts going for a jog during the ALCS, and three years later I've convinced myself it was the day of the stolen base). Now it seems people are half-heartedly trying to get as excited with "We Believe!" posters and so on, but there's nothing to triumph over - no 86-year-old draught, no manufactured curse - the Sox are the heavy favorites, and everyone knows it, but for us Sox fans (and Bostonians in general), our identity has always come from being the underdogs, fighting back when you're up against it, and no-one knows exactly how to feel with a dominating Red Sox team, an undefeated (and seemingly undefeatable) Patriots team, a BC team ranked second in the country, and a Celtics team that looks like a powerful force unto itself. It's an interesting time to live here as a sports fan.
