Small Town Gay Bar - Documentary

I watched this movie during the weekend. It was so amazing! It's about a couple of gay bars in Mississippi. The things that these people have to deal with is crazy. I can't imagine all the homophobia.

This movie was made by Kevin Smith's good friend. The interview with them both is hilarious.

Is anyone here gay and living in a small town?

being a straight non-homophobe garners its own level of discrimination 'round here...

You're very brave. I've said it before, I'm fortunate to have lots of straight friends in my life that don't care that I'm gay. Male and female. It's really amazing.

Thank you.

Aww hug yup I'm gay and I'm pretty safe. I get the odd jerk once and a while but they're just talk and I hangout with some pretty cool people that wouldn't let them get away with hurting me.

I think it was the owners of one of the bars that got shot at. Their house was right next to the bar.

They also have to suffer the usual homophobia as well as the wraith of the Reverend Phelps. They interview him in the movie too. They don't judge or yell at him. They just ask him basically what he's about. If you don't know Phelps he's responsible for starting the website GODHATESFAGS.COM. He has also shown up at funerals for gay people with picketers.
