Stories from the NBA

OK, here it is guys - our NBA thread. Tell your stories, memories and what have you. I'll start.

We had Rocket season tickets from the time they got to Houston until they moved to the Toyota Center a couple years ago, so I have TONS of stories. Here's one:

The Rockets used to have a promotion where three contestants got to shoot three free-throws. If they made one, they got to try a half-court shot and won a Toyota Corolla if they made it.

One night, all three contestants made a free-throw, so they all went to mid-court. The first guy SWOOSHED his shot. First one ever to make it!

The second guy SWOOSHED his, too! Two cars in one night!

The third guy let loose a beautiful arching shot that hit the front of the rim - probably 2 inches short of going in.

Another time, Rodney McCray's brother, Scooter, was one of the contestants. He went 0-3 from the line and never got the half-court shot.

Back in 97, after a Knicks game, my uncle and I went around the gated area in the back of Madison Square Garden. We waited there until the players came out to get thier autographs. I had a HUGE crush on John Starks..so he was the only one I was really waiting for. Finally, he came out and signed autographs. Then he got to me and I damn near died. He signed my jersey and then gave me a hug.

If I was as strong as I am today...I would've tried to rape him.

Olajuwan's block on Starks in Game 6 was maybe the greatest play I've ever seen. In fact, Olajuwan was the greatest player I ever saw.

At least, in the 1993-1994 season - and then in the 1995 playoffs - he played the best basketball I've ever seen. And that includes MJ, Magic, Bird, Havlicek - whoever.

The Nigerian Nightmare was a one-man wrecking crew in '95. Simply amazing. Made The Admiral look like a private.

How about Moses ('fo,'fo, 'fo!) Malone and the Rockets upsetting the Lakers in the '81 playoffs? Back then the opening round was best two out of three.

Kobe learned a lesson - never mess with a street cat unless you're ready to deal. Childs wasn't having any of that sh!t.

Oh yeah! Malone gave the greatest interview in history one preseason. It went like this:

Reporter: What did you do this summer, Moses?

Malone: Shot pool.

Reporter: Oh, so you got a pool table?

Malone (glowering): Shot baskets. Swam in pool.

End of interview, LOL.
