I love musicals too, the singing and the dancing is always fun to watch.
The one musical that I saw that I did not like was "Rent". I probably will get beat up for saying it, but I just didn't feel that play at all. [Edited 10/22/07 6:56am] RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

There are a lot of them that I haven't seen (even though I used to perform the damned things). I need to remedy that. I The Music Man. I don't know why. I just do.
And I share the frequently-expressed hatred of Cats. oh noes, prince is gonna soo me!!1!

my favorite musicals tend to be "non-musicals"...which is to say they're TECHNICALLY broadway musicals, but they don't really follow the tradition or formula of what one usually thinks of.
for example, i LOVE "rocky horror" and "hedwig & the angry inch", and i guess "tommy" goes into the category as well. and now, i guess i can include "xanadu" in the list! i have a respect for classic musicals, but they're not really my bag. that said, i do have a latent soft spot for cole porter but i don't really listen to it very much...

Oh, Rocky and Hedwig. Yeah, they didn't even come to mind, but I like those better than any other musicals I've seen. oh noes, prince is gonna soo me!!1!

Whenever I think of musicals, I think of that Norm MacDonald sketch from SNL, where he can't understand how his fellow street hoodlums suddenly break into choreographed song and dance.

I Love Musicals!!!! However, I will say that a lot of the ones that people think are "classics," I find to be terribly overrated, like Grease, The Sound of Music (gag) and West Side Story (double gag).
I'm big fan of the genre going all the way back to the very beginning. (The Jazz Singer, Broadway Melody) but it's too numerous to name. I'll go with my top favorites in no order unless otherwise noted. (these are all movies, by the way, not plays): Funny Girl (best musical ever made, hands down) Singin' in the Rain Oklahoma! Silk Stockings (Musical Remake of Ninotchka) Carmen Jones An American in Paris (the dancing in this movie is amazing) Top Hat Holiday Inn High Society Stormy Weather Funny Face Cover Girl (Rita Hayworth is a "Love goddess who could cut a rug") Hairspray Chicago Happy Go Lucky (kind of obscure, but a lot of fun!) Guys and Dolls On The Town Swing Time Royal Wedding The Band Wagon 32nd Street Meet Me in St. Louis Summer Stock For Me and My Gal Down Argentine Way Week-End in Havana State Fair (1945 Version, although I do like Ann-Margret's solo in the '63 version) Seven Brides for Seven Brothers Good News Gentlemen Prefer Blondes There's No Business Like Show Business

I forgot to put Fame, even though this could arguably be classified as a drama with musical interludes. I also forgot to add that The Wiz made me gag, too. It was AWFUL.
