You mean cartoons where the cast has super powers and stuff or talking animals and things like that?

That's "witchcraft"?

My son watches mostly Canadian pre-school programs on two specialty stations, this was one of the first times we turned on American network tv to find something for him to watch because he was stuck sick in bed and I do not get those specific channels on that particular tv.

I knew nothing about them other then it was a show called 'Veggie Tales'. I watch very little network tv myself.

I didn't think about it being an american show. doh! Of course it makes sense you'd not have heard of it before. I remember before it was aired on tv there would be ads for the videos and it was always promoted as religious, but I suppose it's not like it's in the title of the show or whatever.

I'm with you Erin. Sure, too much tv isn't good, just as too much of anything isn't good. But there is wonderful educational programming out there.

I think it depends on the type of television.

Although studies now show that there is a link to ADD and early TV viewing, I wonder if its linked to the type of TV they're viewing. Cartoon networks bombard kids with silliness and all manner of advertising, but seseme street, etc. are actually kind of cool

But I totally think that non violent-ish video games are better for kids than cartoons. A game like Mario Sunshine forces the kids to learn hand-eye coordination, puzzles, and memorization. I mean there are hundres of things the kids have to memorize and figure out in these games--it's like a brain workout each time they play.

I decided to let my son watch American network cartoons today so I turned on Veggie Tales and while watching it I started getting the feeling that there were some religious undertones in the story and then suddenly they full out start singing about the bible and shit.

Wtf?

lol

I immediately didn't want my son watching it anymore but he really seems to like it, so I guess Saturday mornings will be God Songs Day at my place.

All of the Veggie Tales cartoons have Christian-related religious overtone. Most of the stories are the re-tellings of the holy scriptures.

BTW, their cover version of the story of Jonah is the worst.

So you have no problem with your children watching gangsta rap videos, Playboy TV/Spice Channel pay-per-view shows or horror films?

I've been shitty tv free for years and years. And so has my son, up until last Saturday that is.

Thankfully, Veggie Tales in not broadcast on Canadian television....or at least maybe it's on our religious network but I don't watch that station.
