Revisited by Psychosomatic Phantoms?

Meaning - flashbacks from PTSD.

Every now and then I have this feeling that I can't breathe, even the collar of my shirt will make me feel like I can't breathe. I thought episodes like these were done with since I had forgiven that one who made these memories.

Has anyone had episodes like these and besides going to a psycho therapist, how have you coped with your flashbacks?

wave I have PTSD. I don't know if you ever totally get over having the flashbacks. The intervals in between the episodes get longer but I think it's always possible they'll come back and smack me again.

When they do come back I try and focus on the fact that they are temporary and will pass.
I try and stay busy and let my loved ones know whats going on with me.
I walk for miles to get the nervous energy under control, sometimes 15 miles or more at a time.
I learned mindfulness techniques when I was in therapy. If you don't want to go that route you could try learning some zen meditation techniques. It works. smile

Try sucking on a fireball candy when you feel an attack coming on. Concentrate on all the sensations the fireball gives you. If other thoughts come in your head just let them pass and stay focused on the fireball. Other candy works too but fireballs also have the hot sensation that helps with blocking the panic.

Count all the white things in the room you're in or motice all the straight lines that are in the room.Anything to distract yourself. It takes practice but it works, you just have to find the distractions that work for you.

Hmmm...Do you do a lot of daily walking? Or mostly when you need to work off the extra nervous energy? This and the fireball candy sounds like it will work for me.

Do you drink coffee, if so, does it affect that energy too? I do drink lots of coffee. And thanks for the advice and kind thoughts! smile

I usually walk 3 to 5 miles a day because I hate not being active but when I hit a bad spot I walk a LOT more. I usually can talk someone into going with me but sometimes being alone is good too.

I drink coffee occasionally and if I don't overdo it I'm fine. But if I drink a lot of coffee it really jangles my nerves. lol

I did my walk and I felt better after working it out like that! I still have that other tip in mind too and I'm going to use it when necessary, such as in social settings. In crowds,...I'm pretty darned nervous and self conscious and don't know what to talk about.
