Americans who've applied for one recently, how long did it take for you to get yours? I've heard everything from 3 weeks to 3 months.

That's about right. I haven't applied for one in a while but things may have changed because of the whole 911 thing.

You can also pay a little more and get it faster.

I believe it took me about 3 1/2 weeks to get mine. All together it cost me about $90.

My friend and I put through for ours at the same time, and I got mine in less than a month while his took about 90 days.

This post doesn't really contribute anything at all, considering what I'm saying has already been said. Okay, I'm going to click 'post response' now and get back to homework.

With passports now being required for flights in and out of Canada and Mexico, there was a "rush" of people applying to get them who didn't need them before. This caused longer wait times than "usual". I don't know if that's still going on or not, but I remember it being on the news and such when the change was first effective.

They told me at the post office it would take up to 12 weeks. I got mine in 8. They also sent me a letter notifying me that they received my application and that it was being processed within 3 weeks.

Depending on when you need it, I would apply and pay the normal fees. If it's getting too close to when you need it then pay the extra to have it expedited.

You're a known member of DOOM, so I wouldn't worry too much about ever being able to get a passport...
