MIGUELGOMEZ

The past week I've been thinking about planning a trip for next September. I want to go to Spain, The Netherlands, and the U.K. I don't know how much time I'll have because of work but I feel like it's something I need to do. At least I'll have some time to save some money.

I don't mind traveling alone. I don't mind having someone with me either. The only thing is it has to be the right someone. I just can't travel with just anybody.

Carrie's right, it's not all parties and roses. It really is different for women traveling alone. Maybe unless you're a woman, you simply won't get that. Women simply aren't afforded the same respect the world over and there is always the violence, sexual and otherwise to consider. Heck, we have to consider that walking alone near our own homes where everythign is utterly familiar.
But of course it can be done, and comfortably as well. Which is why I'm even looking into doing it. But it takes research to find the best way to go about it, the areas that are woman-friendly and most of all, safe.

Sorry. rolleyes

Awesome!!! A friend of mine told me to read it and I couldn't have read it at a better time in my life. It really inspired me...and it's all true! Hope you get as much out of it as I did.

I'm almost done with Italy already. redface

I'm finding it very inspiring as well. And so gosh darn relatable. I'm already thinking about how I can travel for an extended period... cash in my 401k, live like a pauper for a year or two to save, etc. lol

Dang girl!!! Actually it took me about 2 weeks to finish it....and that is good for me! Normally it'll take months for me to read a book or I"ll just never finish it lol

Oh my gosh, I thought I was the only one but this is what I'm planning. I just made aniversary with my job and own 100% of my 401K, and tentatively told my boss that I will be leaving in January sometime. I have been getting rid of all my material possesssions until I can whittle it down to what I can carry with me.

First off I think I'll live in Vegas for awhile...after that, I haven't decided. I got this idea from a book called "Vagabonding" where you live in an area for a time before you move on. This way instead of doing just the tourist thing (point & shoot), you can come to have more appreciation for the peoples and cultures and absorb it.

It does take careful planning because as you mentioned, it is a lot more dangerous for a woman who travels alone. If you need extra income in a foreign country, you can always teach "English", I remember websites about just this.

I hope you find enjoyment in this!

Berlin, Amsterdam or London.

I've been to Copenhagen (with a friend and kicked around Indre By and Vesterbro) but travelled alone while in Brussels.
