Damage is done by using the wrong styling products it's all in the preperation.
GHD heat up fast and run smooth down the hair shaft no need to go over the area 2 many times, i have seen more damage done by using the wrong brush and hairdyer on high heat than using GHD's, they maybe costly but i do recomend them as less times spent on your hair syling the less damage is done.

Hairdressers (or at least honest ones) will always tell you that any straighteners are bad for your hair. I was laughing at my friend who was straigtening her hair with an iron years ago, but actually it is actually the same thing, straighteners look different but the concept is the same.
The result is good, yes it works no doubt but avoid using it often.
Curly hair is fine too biggrin

eek I am a hairdresser with many salons I wouldnt have my busineses if i wasnt honest 2 them lol i dont want my customers to be walking out with damaged hair I want them back omfg the straighteners from the past are a similar concept yet diffirent plates used so less damange. Blow drying damages 2. Use good shampoo's and conditioners and alow ur hair 2 dry naturesway, for currly hair after dry run a good serum through those natural curls and work that hair giggle

I got one off of ebay for like $20 including shipping. It works great. Here's a picture I took of my daughter when we first got it. Half her hair is frizzed out, and the other half is after using the straightener.

My sister-in-law paid $100 for hers, and told me mine was not going to work since I got it so cheap on Ebay. She was wrong.

I want to do that..how do you make it stay?
All I can do is put mine in a pony tail, I probably would not look good with the whole bun thing.

Ppl are always amazed about how I turn my frizz ball into something good but I have never been good at putting it up. I guess when we come over to Australia you will have to give me a lesson.

nod I have GHDs as well, and proper ringlet-curly hair! They are amazing.

I would definitely recommend the investment, here GHDs are about GBP £80, but I must have bought about 4 cheap straighteners at about £20 each before I bit the bullet and spent the money on the expensive ones, and I should have done it years ago nod

I have never managed to successfully blow dry my hair straight. I can't get rid of the frizz....straighteners! yay!
Rock n roll baby

but AUS$199 I thought was a bit steep, but it curls as well

hmmm

Jessica has one I got for her - was around $59 - works like a charm and she likes it

My sister bought a couple of those mall demonstrated curling irons that cost a hundred dollars or so... but they were having a "special promotion" for the holidays last year. She bought one for me... however, I do take the time to do my hair and practically any hot iron I can make work for me. Some are better than others... and some more or less in money.

I am not too fooled by $$$ but you do want to get a fairly safe metal that will not damage your hair. I use mine everyday... Hot Tools 1 1/2 barrel iron. I have bought the flat irons... but I don't want that stick straight look, it does not work for me with curly, gray, outrageous hair. smile

I would say... don't buy a $200.00 dollar iron... there are so many that cost 1/4 the of that, that work well. Plus, if you are not invested in doing your hair (time-wise), chances are... you will not be able to make it work the way the demonstrators can... they are trained to sell. lol

My sister too the two irons back.

If I may, It is not that it wont work... but likely the difference between 10 minutes or an hour or greater? Also the higher heat irons will get it smoother then that with enough heat to resist tightening up over the day...

I have a HAI iron and i love it....
