Cry Baby: The Musical Although I love Divine, I always thought that Cry Baby had a better story and better music than Hairspray.
http://www.broadway.com/G...?ci=553790 This should be good, if they keep all of the original songs. . [Edited 10/16/07 11:02am]

I don't know how I feel about this. You can call me a John Waters' purist or something. MyeternalgrattitudetoPhil&Val.Herman said "We want sweaty truckers at the truck stop! I'm sorry, but after Pecker, John Waters lost it. If his legacy can be salvaged by Broadway, then so be it.

I'm sorry, but after Pecker, John Waters lost it. If his legacy can be salvaged by Broadway, then so be it. i thought 'a dirty shame' was a good return to form. his movies can't be "female trouble" or "pink flamingos" anymore. he's too established. he can't make grungy, grimey, filthy looking films with amateur actors anymore - if he tried for the sake of "credibility", it would look more forced and disingenuous than the glammed-up flicks he's already making. at least the screenplay for 'a dirty shame' was totally perverted and demented. i think he still has an amazing wit. meanwhile, if ol uncle john is making lotsa money for sitting on his butt and letting broadway adapt his films into musicals, then more power to him.

I do too. I just don't see why it isn't translating into his movies. His commentary on the recent Special Edition DVD of Mommie Dearest is funnier than anything he's actually filmed for nearly a decade. His interviews too - hilarious. I'm hoping his kids Christmas movie will be a return to form. I should start a thrread about artists whom have gone off the boil. French & Saunders have completely lost it too.

Next to the 'Greatest Movie Ever Made' commentary on the special edition of "Showgirls," John's "Mommie Dearest" commentary is the BEST commentary track ever.

This is going to sound really lame but I loved the commentary on Pretty Woman. Gary Marshall was funny and it wasn't all technical stuff it had fun facts. Thanks for reminding me. I think that's one of the DVD's that I don't have. I just recently watched the Polyester commentary and that was funny too. A lot of it he covered on his DVD, THIS FILTHY WORLD. MyeternalgrattitudetoPhil&Val.Herman said "We want sweaty truckers at the truck stop! I went to one of his lectures at San Jose State University 2,000,000 years ago and this woman got up and asked him, if he really likes litle children and if he was a pedophile. Everyone was like, WTF. They had to throw the woman out. It was such an uncomfortable moment. He just said that he looks like a child molester but he isn't one.
