If you cower from something, you are making a conscience choice to do so. There is a purpose behind it, such as avoiding the uncomfortable. Therefore, you choose to be a coward.

No, in that case you choose to avoid the uncomfortable. Nobody would actively try to be a coward. It might turn out that way anyway, but that's beside the point.
