My parents and I eat crab legs every Xmas.

It started because I got sad after my grandma died and I stopped going to my aunt and uncles on Xmas eve 'cause I didn't want to go with her gone so we stayed home and my favorite food used to be crab legs so my mom made them for me. Now I have crab legs with my parents every year on Xmas eve.

What odd, quirky, or just plain old unique family traditions do you have?

If you don't have any, what boring traditions do you have?

This isn't odd or unique, but my Mom used to cook this big ass Sunday breakfast every Sunday consisting of pancakes with maple syrup (ill), scrambled eggs, toast, jelly, fruit, bacon, and grits.

Somewhere along my extremely dysfunctional teenage years this tradition died a quick death. But when I look back to my childhood its one of those things that just occurred and we considered normal.

I spent the night with my friend, Daniel, once, and his family didn't brush their teeth until after breakfast. I found this disturbing.

why would you brush before breakfast? Your food would taste nasty disbelief

We play Bingo after Christmas dinner every year. The prizes usually consist of crap that noboby wants but some of it's funny. Occasionally, she'll put money in a box.

My grandmother did this thing that I really never questioned but when I did it really made me laugh. She had a picture of the queen on her wall. And whenever I would walk in the room she would ask me to hail the queen. I can’t remember exactly what I did to signify that I hailed her but I do remember her always asking that of me.

One day I got to thinking about that and I asked my sister what she thought of it and she said that my grandmother never asked her to hail the queen. eek I then asked my cousins and she never asked them either. eek eek I asked different people from the UK if this was a custom and they all said no. eek eek eek I couldn’t figure out what this was about and once when discussing this with a guy from the UK, he said that maybe it was her way of acknowledging that I was gay. Gay = Queen. eek eek eek eek

I seriously trip out that she only did this with me lol Since the rest of us aren't british subjects I guess this isn't exactly a tradition but still....quirky lol

Well lets see...growing up, always had the HUGE Sunday breakfasts, which I still do now for my kids.

Growing up we always had tamales on Christmas eve, after going to midnight mass.

In my own family I still do the tamale thing...but....

Thanksgiving, my boy always butters the Turkey, and I take pics. biggrin

Christmas Eve, we always spend the evening at the movies seeing two or more movies..my son says it makes the time go by faster, so it's closer to Christmas morning. lol We always have cinnamon rolls for breakfast, Chinese for lunch..the we cook this HUGE pasta dinner for Christmas supper.

Also Christmas time means...that I watch every Christmas show under the sun..from Rudolph to Frosty!!! giggle

Mardi Gras, we have a HUGE dinner on Fat Tuesday, and of course our King cake!

Valentines Day..the cupid comes to visit the kids, leaving gifts. biggrin

Halloween...I decorate like crazy, everything is up day 1 of Oct.

Easter..it's the normal Easter bunny coming to visit and the egg hunts. lol

I'm sooooo glad my sister vowed that if any of her kids end up being gay, that she would support them without a moments thought and disown anyone in the family that speaks ill of them, such is her undying love for her kids.

It strikes me that parents can be so inadvertently cruel to their children otherwise. shrug

But still about this story falloff
