anyone know some healthy ways to GAIN weight? So here's the deal.
I went to the Dr. for a physical today, and promptly got told that in spite of being overall a healthy weight for my height and body type, my body fat percentage is too low. I'm at 17% body fat, and the lowest percentage considered healthy for me (a female of child-bearing age) is 22%. He said I'm not in danger yet, but that if I lose much more I risk doing all kinds of damage to my body, which is definitely not the avenue I want to go down. I knew I was thin, but I didn't think I was that skinny. The good Dr. said I should make a serious effort to gain both muscle and fat weight. Sure, I say. Hell, winter's coming up, I'll need the extra insulation. So does anybody 'round these parts have any good tips or suggestions for a healthy way to gain weight? I don't eat much meat or animal products, and never pork, but would starting to drink milk be a good place to start? [Edited 10/11/07 2:31am] "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

Double the portions of everything you eat and sleep a lot. I'm not mad at you, I'm mad at the dirt.

[Edited 10/11/07 2:31am] As long as all the essentials are present and you don't exaggerate (keep things somewhat balanced), there is no such thing as unhealthy food. Well, there is, but if you don't get addicted on junk food or candy and you eat amounts that your metabolism can handle, you'll be fine. Well, there is, but if you don't get addicted on junk food or candy and you eat amounts that your metabolism can handle, you'll be fine. I already eat a pretty healthy diet. Nothing specific or strict rules; I just eat what I like best and most of what I happen to like is of the healthy variety. I practically live off pasta and veggies. But I definitely want to gain a bit of weight. The muscle won't be hard, as I tend to build it pretty easily. It's gaining fat that I'm not sure about. I went out and bought milk and chocolate. Figured I'd start there. "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

The only thing that gets me fat(ter) is skipping break fast, eating candy bars between meals, eating at night or, if all else fails, even more beer than usual. And indulging in some high fat, not so good for you food is ok in moderation. I just wouldn't try gaining weight with unhealthy food and/or a sedentary lifestyle.
