my cousin sent pictures from qatar... this is his road out to work
i know it's desert but seeing how affluent it is makes you realize the power of oil. his wife has just arrived there yesterday in spite of the fact the paperwork isn't done yet. keep your head down

how far away are you from there? Is your friend a contractor? Qatar is where we take our 4 day passes...and when things are favorable to having a bunch of American troops around, they let us go downtown on culture tours and shopping excursions... I should be home by the end of November (worst case, depending on all contingencies)....taking into account traffic and whatnot, I'm about 3 hours from Phoenix..... if my head were any lower I'd be an ostrich.... nope we have quite a bit of oil and gas here in western canada so my cousin has spent his life working in the industry. however up till now when he was working somewhere exotic like on a platform off africa his wife stayed home. this time she is going along as it's a three year adventure. now that she is there i am interested to see what her experiences are on the streets of doha. my aunt is worried for them but i showed her a list of crime stats and qatar was at the very bottom. [Edited 10/14/07 8:18am] never know.....like I said it all depends on contract flights and getting a flight out of there.....its an Army thing to expect the worst and hope for better.....
it'll be a bit of an adjustment living in qatar....especially for his wife, since western women must follow most muslim edicts for women as far as dress and public behavior go....but its not severe like having to wear a burqua or what have you...but from what I've heard from the contractors here, its nice....
