I can understand that not only monetary reasons can stop people from travelling.

Well, I'm going to take myself on a day-out on Monday into the city centre. I get paid on the fifteenth and I want to see the Doctor Who exhibition at the Science & Industry Museum before it closes. I could do with kidnapping one of my nieces for the day, but I think they'll both be in school.

I'll probably end-up spending forty quid - but it'll be worth it. I wouldn't be able to go at all, if I was saving for an long-term excursion.

I already missed the Kylie exhibition as I was penniless due to a glut of birthdays between July and September. sad

If I was saving what little spare money I had, I wouldn't be able to afford going anywhere at all.

I have a very good friend who hasn't travelled anywhere in over 15 years. She has a gorgeous home and that's what she spends all her money on.

Personally, I would rather have an average home and use any extra money towards a holiday. I can't see spending all one's time at home and never experiencing other countries or culture, but that's just me.

I've been soooo very lucky and blessed to have been able to travel a little.

I was once shocked silly when a co-worker once said to me, "Nah, I'd rather buy me a nice piece of jewelry, than to travel."

eek

My sister is the same way. She hasn't been on a real holiday in 8-9 years. She has more jewelry than Elizabeth Taylor. I love it too, but I would never choose it over a vacation.

You should borrow her jewelry to wear while on vacation. lol

I know some people who seem to never leave their house. But they do. They have to visit family, or they go on vacation, work, etc.

So since they HAVE to do that stuff, they almost never leave their house on the weekends, and you end up only hanging out with their S.O. and wondering if they hate you or something.

My last vacation was in 88....Hubby is a workaholic, he CANT relax, at least not the kind of "layin on the beach doing NOTHING relaxing" neutral
we are both happy with our lives, we are homebodies,we have hobbies.friends, a nice home...well I consider ALMOST paid off nice...lol biggrin

so the plan is to save for a nicer home to retire to. so if we take vacations...that dream is gonna be delayed...ALOT

When I lived in the sticks (an hour outside of Seattle. . . doesn't take long to reach the middle of Nowhere, USA lol ), I knew lots of people who hardly ever left their small town, and some who had never left the state of Washington. Going aaalllll the way to Seattle was a big deal for a lot of them.

Scary.

None of my friends are like that.

I barely travel, although I'm anything but the stay-at-home type of person. There's so much to do where I'm at. However, I have a friend who never goes anywhere, and the most she'll do is meet me for a group lunch in the daytime. I invite her over all the time and suggest that we go for movies or whatever, but she doesn't ever do that kind of stuff with anyone. She's really sweet though, and one of the most understanding friends I'll ever have.
