Gimme Silverchair anyday! Daniel Johns has one of the best voices in music ever! Theres nothing he cant do Silverchair compared to 90% of "bands" around these days they have extreme amounts of talent and creativity...and they dont wear crazy amounts of make-up, sure Daniel wears the odd bit of eye liner or something but its not like all these emo bands that just go waayy over the top. Also they have changed so much over the years its hard to tell that they are still the same band. Go listen to Frogstomp and then listen to their new one Young Modern. Its just amazing that a band can change that much, where as all these generic "rock" bands just keep the same sound and dont grow as a band and just pretty much rehash the same old crap they have done all their lives, a good example of that is The Rolling Stones...apart from the fact that they live off their old songs their new music is pretty much the same, but they just dont play them live cause they know its crap. Since when does amount of makeup equal talent? The man this website is dedicated to doesn't exactly go easy on it! Also they have changed so much over the years its hard to tell that they are still the same band.
That's actually what I don't like about them. They were these Nirvana rip-offs back in the day, now they're some sort of contemporary pop wannabe alternative band. Go listen to Frogstomp and then listen to their new one Young Modern. What's wrong with sticking to the right recipe? I agree some bands like Nickelback never sound different but I think Silverchair's change was too far from what they started as. And it's really not that good music, everyone just clings to them because they've been around a long time and are the only "rock" band we really have. Plus, have you heard Daniel Johns sing "Straight Lines" live? Eek!! He can barely reach the high notes.

lol i love it when people compare Silverchair to Nirvana when Daniel has clearly stated many times they wernt, if anything there were trying to be Sabbath and Zeppers rip offs....like dare i say it Wolfmother but those guys make it a hell of a lot more obvious.
I have seen Silverchair 5 times live twice this year and quite frankly Straight Lines is a shit song, listen to Those Thieving Birds or Tuna In The Brine live he definately can hit every single note, and does it really matter if he cant do it in one song, part of the live experience is NOT to go for what you hear on the album, if you do well either its a crap band or you should just stay at home and listen to the CDs. Another good thing to point out is that Daniel has pretty much stopped playing all their old songs as he knows they just arnt that good, and i have to agree with that, sure it made them "stars" but if you notice by listening to their older albums it was a gradual progression into the music they make today also they arnt angry teenagers any more added the fact that Daniel is in one of the happiest times of his life this colourful music was not unexpected. but on Idol, i noticed another thing most of the people left look practically the same and their voices are hardly different from each other, apart from the dude who is more of a crooner. Have you SEEN Silverchair's first few videos? With the sound down, you'd think it WAS Nirvana.
But I'm sure if it were any other popstar or slightly pop group, everyone would be furious if one note was out of line.
Fair enough but it's still sad that they seem to be distancing themselves from their beginning like it was something to be ashamed of. I liked their music then. Can't stand it now. but on Idol, i noticed another thing most of the people left look practically the same and their voices are hardly different from each other, apart from the dude who is more of a crooner.
Yeah, they've gone for that post-emo kinda look. The vulnerable, skinny waifs who still have an emo fringe but aren't quite as hardcore anymore.

yeah i have seen all of chairs film clips, and yes there are similarities towards Nirvana, but im just saying what has been said in many interviews when the interviewer hasnt done his research and brought that question up and they just shoot him down straight away saying that they very rarely listened to Nirvana, if they were emulating a grunge band it was more Pearl Jam than Nirvana It amazes me how much these people who go on idol let themselves get used! and most likely not get paid anything in the process! I tried out many years ago when they came to Canberra, mainly for fun not being too serious and just going through the "contract" theres some bullshit stuff in there like your NOT allowed to be already on a record label therefore your not allowed to have any of your own creativity brought into the mix, so basically your putting your life in the hands of some record label yes men who THINK the public will like this crap song written by some dodge old guy in the studio. And the fact that you have no say in what your doing is also crap, and that you have to pay off the recording studio time through album sales before you even get a cent is just as bad! And if your a flop you still have to come up with the cash or something to reimburse them with! Imagine that Casey Donovan chick.....the 2nd Aussie "Idol" incase you forgot. She flopped majorly, although ive heard some controversial stuff about how she "won" (bookies taking bets on who will win, she had crazy odds and many people bet on her to lose so they called in shitloads of times as it cost them less to do that than to pay up if she really lost!) but she would have had to come up with all that some how! And she even got dropped by the label! Oh and another thing in the contract which i see as pretty much selling your soul is that they can use you in any way/shape or form to promote the show, so if your one of the unfortunate people who get put on TV for being crap and just being humiliated, you cant do anything about it! Or if you go ahead in your musical career without making it far into the show and still say somewhere that you were apart of the show (say you made it to the top 100 and had a sticker on your CD saying that without their permission) they have the power to take that CD off shelves and ruin you because of it! What a joke! Receiving transmission from David Bowie's nipple antenna. Do you read me Lieutenant Bowie, I said do you read me...Lieutenant Bowie

Yeah, and Human Nature often like to say how original they are... Their latest album wasnt the best, but quite frankly i dont think they will ever be able to top Diorama to me that is one of the best albums ever made by any band. But anyway enough of that i can see that your not into them as much as me
I liked Diorama. Was that the one with "The Greatest View" and "Across The Night" because I like those songs. The Greatest View is awesome because at least it still has a touch of what they used to be, while still sounding relevant. It amazes me how much these people who go on idol let themselves get used! and most likely not get paid anything in the process! Most of them are young and have a dream. That is blinding enough. To have 3-4 very powerful industry figures accept you would make you want to do anything in return which is why they get slaughtered so easily. It's how all popstars become puppets. They don't think they'll like it - the watching public always DOES. Most of the records set lately by Aussie artists have been by Idols because of the hype machine. Why mess with a winning formula for big bucks? It's very wrong but people are driven by money. The slimey businessmen must have been giddy when a formula for big bucks involved rounding up a young bunch of "talent", programming them to seem like they know what they're doing and market them as if they're going to be the next musical icon. The only reason Kelly Clarkson has any success these days is because she was smart enough to break out and speak up (which she's now being shot down for). And the fact that you have no say in what your doing is also crap, and that you have to pay off the recording studio time through album sales before you even get a cent is just as bad! And if your a flop you still have to come up with the cash or something to reimburse them with!
But you're "famous"! Because they, the bigwigs, said so! Yaaaaay!
I don't know why people only mention Casey Donovan like she was the only one to flop from Idol. Tell me what amazing things any of the Idols are doing? Guy is basically done, Millsy fucked Paris Hilton and now hosts that late night quiz sms show and The Singing Bee, The Young Divas are pathetic and only do covers, Jessica Mauboy has already joined them to replace Ricki Lee, Ricki Lee's single was big but her album has bombed, and ALL those other bunches of top 12 contestants have just gone NOWHERE. Absolutely NOWHERE. Remember how they said Chanel was a true artist? Yeah... And how Cosima brought the house down? She's doing well..... How they acted like Bobby Flynn was the new fucking John Lennon? Where is he..... Even Damien Leith..who Mark referred to as an "artiste" has done shit all. Casey Donovan is just one from the whole group of failures. Shannon Noll has done well but I can't see him breaking the US or even the UK. His songs aren't exactly life changing or anything [though the one about his dad was impressive]. And he sounds shit live. Oh and another thing in the contract which i see as pretty much selling your soul is that they can use you in any way/shape or form to promote the show, so if your one of the unfortunate people who get put on TV for being crap and just being humiliated, you cant do anything about it! Yeah, that's terrible. Someone should speak out about this. Have you seen the terrible ads with past "idols"? The bloody CLINKERS one with Lee Harding and the shampoo one with Jessica. Those poor, poor kids. I remember last season they told one boy who auditioned they'd let him in but they were worried about him missing year 12. Well, he went with Idol and was eventually voted out. He missed his EDUCATION for that. It's horrible. Or if you go ahead in your musical career without making it far into the show and still say somewhere that you were apart of the show (say you made it to the top 100 and had a sticker on your CD saying that without their permission) they have the power to take that CD off shelves and ruin you because of it!
