Can you have too much of a good thing?

The best things in life are when they come around seldom.

True or not? If they happen often, how can we appreciate them so?

I know for a fact that when I have too much of a good thing it can be spoiled. Do you agree or not?
biggrin

For example:

A great song - play it to death it becomes boring.

Your newest recipe/meal, keep making/eating it, you becaome nauseous.

Flowers, gifts from your partner. Too often the surprise is spoiled.

I celebrated my birthday over the weekend with friends and family. They got me a half of a sheet cake that was surrounded by cupcakes. Everyone ate all the cupcakes and sent me home with ALL of the sheet cake. Dont get me wrong, I love cake but that's a little too much of a good thing. I'm trying to give it away at work.

Anyone want any cake?

There's no such thing as too much of a good thing. If it's that good, you can never have too much of it.

You're talking about the Law of Diminshing Returns.

Or, as our grandparents used to say - everything in moderation.

I disagree.

If you have too much of it, to a point that it's not good anymore, than it's no longer a good thing, which means you're not having too much of a good thing, but too much of what used to be a good thing biggrin

Have you never spoiled a good thing?
Maybe you haven't had so much of a good thing that you haven't already corrupted it yet. wink

Once it's corrupted, it's no longer a good thing, then you're having too much of something that is not a good thing biggrin so having too much of a good thing doesn't exist biggrin

I disagree.

I mostly concur with your disagreement, with the qualifier that there are exceptions, such as a genuinely loving relationship which constantly is explicitly reaffirmed by both parties via words and actions, or true friends on whom one can completely trust and count, or a strong mind and body. I contend that one can never have too much of the preceding.

Generally speaking, however, if a particular (material) thing or experience in life comes too often, or comes too easily, I definitely agree that thing/experience loses its magic and its meaning.

Before it feels tiresome, find something new. biggrin
I know I am the last to speak, I find something I love and I want it always, but that can put me off for months or years in the long run, so I have to change, before it gets tiresome. I have some wicked recipes, but I have to close the book and ignore for at least 3 to 6 months, otherwise I will kill myself with the same tastes. Challenge something new.
I am terrible for routine. I run a daily route, and I know I will tire of it soon, so I have to find something new, or it will put me off for life. I am my own worst enemy for change, but if I don't force myself I will be stuck in groundhog day. lol

I've been told a couple of times that I may have an inch or two too many,
but then I usually just slap the bitch quiet,
& remind her that this ain't the country.
Here in the city,
there are certain rules & regulations of ediquette that we abide to.
And one of dem is that it is considered quite rude to interupt a blow-job just to state one's own opinion.
And then we both end up making do with what we have.

The important thing is that
none of us should ever put any limitations upon ourselves.
The world will try to inflict enough of those on us without us having to add any more on to 'em.
The world will never give you permission to shine.
You have to give to it to yourself.
And the first step is to remind yourself that
"You can never have too much of a good thang."
The universe gave us everything we will ever need to get through this thing called life.
We just need to learn how to get outta the way of it's destiny for us.
And to know when to shut the fuck up.
Especially any of you farm-raised, opinionated bitches out there.
