rob zombie's halloween

very good. very scary. go see it! lol

it's a very different movie so i don't want to talk about any specific scenes. suffice to say that even the most purist of slasher film fans will enjoy this revision.

I'm very very very curious. I hate his films (but haven't seen Devils Rejects), but am interested. Halloween was brilliant when it came out back in '78

this movie isn't about the people he kills, or even the fact that he kills. this movie is about michael myers. it's a really cool take on the classic. it makes him much more 3 dimensional and fleshed out...he becomes real, like a dahmer or gacy.

ok, so I take it, I won't be watching something that appears to be a really long Rob Zombie music video with splashes of dialogue then? lol

I just get nervous about remakes like this. I mean, like really nervous. lol

i haven't seen his other movies so i don't know what to compare it to, but no, its nothing like what you said. the movie starts with myers as a kid on the day of his sister's murder. you see him at school, at home, basically a day in the life. then there's some time spent in the mental hospital and you get to see how the breakout happens (whereas in the first one, it's already happened off camera). then it goes to haddonfield and we know that story already though rob makes it new and fresh without losing the vision of the origional.

oh, its totally more gory. he doesn't make it so at the expense of the suspense. there are still all the scenes with michael watching, stalking, standing behind someone in a room and then disappearing. it's all there, just updated.

see it's the updated part that scares me, some of the design and flow of the original is secure and effective, and putting in frantic editing and more angles and action actually marks it with style that is already out of fashion today, whereas the style of Halloween '78 for the most part is timeless in parts. but I am still very interested in seeing it.

no, there was none of that choppy flashy editing. at least, not enough for me to notice anything...and i hate that sort of thing.

I didn't care at all for Rob Zombie's other films, but I plan to see this because of how much I love the original Halloween.

From what I understand, the film had intially been intended for a mid to late October release but the speculation is, that had it opened then, it would have had to contend at the box office with Saw 4 and so the studio pressed for this late summer release date instead.

Each of the other films in the Halloween series - including the original - were also late-summertime releases, so perhaps that fact contributed to the release date decision as well.

First of all the Halloween music is "Scary". I'll check this movie out. I only like Halloween and Halloween 2. Part 3 wasn't really a Halloween movie. Parts 4 and 5 were bad sequals. H20 was boring as hell. There was one with Busta Ryhmes in it (Part 6????) Crappy and very lame.

First half was good. Second half not so good. The original is in my top 10 of all time but I have been looking forward to this since it was announced, so it's not a case of expecting too much. What I loved about the characters in the original is that Carpenter and Hill developed them individually, so you had time to get to know them. This time they were introduced and picked off so quickly in the second half that it felt rushed, then the finale dragged on and on. That part wasn't so good for me.

But the introductory part - developing Michael as a child and then a killer - was well done.

The original was released on October 25, 1978 but did a slow build after that. It did phenomenal business after that, taking in about $50 million in box office receipts. It's only been the past three installments that were released in August.

wasnt part 6. Theres halloween 1,2,3,4,5,and part 6 was called "Halloween The Curse of Michael Myers (did u c that one), part 7 was Halloween H20 then came part 8 which was called "Halloween Ressurection.

I definently want 2 c this, i own "House of 1000 Corpses" on dvd and even went 2 c Devils Rejects in theatres. So im a fan of Zombies Movies (NOT HIS MUSIC) and im a huge fan of the halloween films

Yes I all saw "Curse of Michael Myers" & "ressurection" maybe the worse of the batch. I liked parts 1 & 2. Part 4 was ok, the rest were just horible.

I saw it today. I still prefer the atmosphere of the original, but Rob Zombie (whose work I usually despise) did a decent homage. Without going into too much detail, many of the signature scenes are still there, and what little Zombie changes in the way of the story line is done (with overall success) for clarity and to shore up the backstory. As expected, some of the death scenes are protracted in this one, both to make them more disturbing and more graphic (who'd expect otherwise from Zombie?), but as Sassy suggested, the buckets of blood don't come at the expense of a solid story. The kitschy edits and camera work are kept to a bare minimum. There's one death scene where Zombie relies on an erratic heldheld effect, but I think it adds to the eeriness of what's transpiring. And there's one conspicuous crash edit later in the movie that'll leave you thinking, "WTF just happened?" But, again, it works well.

There is a bit of redundancy in a few scenes, and I do think the pace of the third act seems a bit rushed, owing to the slow build of the first act. But these aren't fatal flaws.
