Are you an old soul? What were you previously?

Ok, if you believe in reincarnation it's all good. If not, you can have fun supposing what you might have been previously.

There's a serious side though, if you believe you're on more than your first go around. I believe in karma but I don't think it's purely based on actions in previous lives alone automatically determining the state of your current life, but also what kind of experience is necessary and needed to challenge you and move you towards enlightenment and nirvana.

Personally, I don't think I've been around as many times as some, but I do feel like a bit of an old soul. When it comes to relationships and money in particular I feel like I've been there and done it. This may be completely erroneous, of course, but I feel like the pitfalls and traps of those two elements of human life are something I've never had difficulty avoiding this time, having had the so-called benefits of each previously at least once. I am, however, very naive in some ways. All in all I'm inclined to feel I've led a pretty privileged life in several previous lives, at first being hedonistic and selfish and then later more altruistic (though not as much as I could have been), now being put in a situation where life is relatively easy to begin with but ultimately demands a great deal of compassion and selflessness.

So, what do you think you might have been in previous lives? Where are you at now in your evolution? What do you think this life is here to teach you, or if it's not done so by design what do you think it has taught you all the same?

Some times I do get the feeling that I have been here before..on this earth somewhere.
I have not figured out where or when but I do believe I am an old soul.

peace!

Maybe in my previous life I was a real "tree hugger"

lol

Yeah, I've always thought of myself as an old soul. I haven't really been so practical about it though as to think that if my soul is older than my body then it must have inhabited other bodies before. It's more been a general feeling of world weariness and already from the get go having reached a stage where serious things are more important. It's definitely not all good since I've felt cheated on that reckless youthfulness and being allowed to make really stupid mistakes, but on the other hand I've never had to "find myself" or feel totally lost either.

Oh, I hear that, though I've never felt resentful of it, especially when it comes to relationships, cheating etc. because I've always felt like I knew how it would be, how it would go down, knowing what it felt like, so I've never even felt tempted when it comes to making some selfish, reckless mistakes.

Of course, the cynic in me looks at a lot of this as just people growing up with a certain maturity in some areas and a naivety in others which leads them to think these things. We can all feel like old, weary souls at times and young and foolish at others, but it doesn't hurt to think about it and open yourself to the possibility that there might be a reason why we feel the way we do and have the personalities we do, be you the go-getter, the faithful partner, the giver, the taker, the doormat, the hedonist, saint or whatever.

Well, good for you then, Mr 100% Wise And Content Man. shrug razz

I'm not saying I'm resentful of it either, but of course recklessness has a certain allure and in a normal life cycle it definitely has its place. When people say they "need to get it out of their system" I can totally understand and empathize, and I can feel like that myself too.

addition for clarity edit

Interesting, though my personal belief is not that these traits were necessarily acquired in a past life, but rather that the soul is born with a seed of what we are, and then it's up to us to make the most of it. I don't feel cynical looking at it that way though. I think it's a positive thing.

I'm a medium soul biggrin
Been here before but not enough times to be an old soul.
I don't exactly know who I was but I feel that I may have been drowned, hung and suffocated in other lives. Probably over religion.

Right now the semi-old body that hosts my old soul has a youthful appetite for exotic food, so I'm off to the Thai restaurant. smile

from dreams,i can remember my past lives..lol as a buddhist i kinda have to believe in reincarnation but i digress. well i keep a dream journal, in which i write all the dreams i have..on the subject of past lives i have come to three different past lives.

1. i was the wife of a soldier in ireland, the news had just come to the fact that my husband was killed. this dream was the most vivid..

2. i was boy in mexico who drowned in a lake..

3. I was a man in a moroco..who owned some sort of like bakery...this was the less vivid..

Yes, but I don't have the energy to writei it all out... that's how old I am. lol I feel many lives beyond my own, it gives me a sense of meaning relating to moments that are just unexplained, yet so immediate to how they affect you. I usually just go with it... hear it out... and it always causes me to feel, I have known this moment before, if not necessarily the person or place of where I am.

I love them moments and within these moments I feel the most alive, like a life much larger than the one I have known directly.

I have said this before... but I truly must say it again... I feel used up at 36 somedays, somedays I feel I don't have much more to give (it began this past year)... yet, just as quick I am to feel this at times, more always comes, just as quick if not faster. lol

I need a vacation with no demands... lol That is why my days off are so guarded.

Yes, I may be on the verge of work/life burn-out... or maybe I am just an old soul awaiting for life's next stage. All in all... I still am content but still demand time alone and the great outdoors. rose

I confuse myelf. lol

By the way, I must have been a dove or something... I have this constant urge to view things from above. biggrin

ummm... hmmm, no. Though I can't be certain, for there is so much unknown. But I don't feel two moments to ever be the same, just moments and people that seem familiar but no two moments or people seem alike in anyway to me. Life is unique in that way, I believe.

Ok... um... maybe it is possible... the odds are not that great, I don't feel. It's like meeting someone randomly and seeing them again, only to say... "Haven't I meet you somewhere before?" Oh yeah, that's right. lol

I remember reading some quote that said "Maybe our souls were destined to meet again and again in each lifetime" (or something like that)...reminded me of those "maybe it was meant to be" comments concerning friendships, lovers, etc. I guess it would be chalked up to reliving the "same life" again and again until we get it right from start to finish lol... hmmm

When we become friends with someone as an adult and we say "I feel like I've known you my entire life", maybe we were childhood friends with this person/soul in a previous life...?? hmmm

My mom "adopted" a man she talked to regularly while on her way to work...the connected so instantly and he just thought the world of her (and she, him) that she started calling him her "adopted son" as a loving compliment (the rest of the family met him as well, and he truly is a wonderful person)...maybe he really WAS her son in a previous life...?? hmmm
