Which magazines are you feeling right now?

I think you can tell some interesting things about a person by what "junk" lit he/she reads. So to which magazines do you subscribe, or which do you buy or read... or merely like... with some regularity?

I guess it's only fair that I share my own.

I don't have a subscription to all of these, but these are some that I'm particularly feeling right now...

I don't really read slicks anymore. Maybe because I read so much during my job that I've no interest in letting it spill over into my leisure time.

What's The Sun about?

Nearly anything you can imagine ~ ad free, many reader submissions. Articles cover the complete range from sex to politics, religion to the environment, your relationship with your father or just how it feels to lie in the grass.
There is brilliant photography every month. The most compelling story I ever read was in The Sun ~ about a young girl, I believe in Thailand. She was prostituted but didn't have to work this day because it was her birthday. She spent the time in a little room with only a fly as company. If I remember correctly her name was Ut. It was one of those moments that brings a new source of understanding to something for which we have no point of reference.
Here is a little view from their website

From its idealistic, unlikely inception in 1974 to its current incarnation as a nonprofit magazine with more than 70,000 subscribers, The Sun has attempted to marry the personal and political; to honor the genuine and the spiritual; to see what kind of roommates beauty and truth can be; and to show that powerful teaching can be found in the lives of ordinary people.

I think you would love it. It can be found at some bookshops but can be difficult to seek out. If you can't find it, I'll send you a copy. n

I only read

No articles about relationships, how to be sexy for your man and all that crap, and no stories about the horrors in the world. Just straight up makeup, fashion, health, etc.

I'm such a girl.

I used to love kitchen sink, but sadly they've quit making them. Right when I was about to get a subscription too. pout Another indie mag bites the dust...

Used to read Adbusters, but lately they've been too high-minded and snotty. Idealism is meaningless when you use it as an excuse to look down on everybody else.

It is, and I'm sure you'd like it. Plenty of cool design and random "art". It's very conceptual though, not at all like regular magazines, and it has very little text by way of explaining what's on the pages. That's part of what makes it fascinating though.

as long as the design is good - presentation is everything!
