Whatcha readin'?

I've been on a Walter Mosely kick, having read "Cinnamon Kiss" and "White Butterfly," "Big Boy Brawley Brown" and "Black Betty" before.

Now, I'm reading

while trying to balance all that grit, noir and sin lol out with a compilation of the writings of Howard Thurman, who was straight-up brilliant.

fun stuff - it's a yearly anthology of the most uncategorizably interesting magazine/journal/blog writing of the year, as chosen by a group of high school students and edited by dave eggers. sufjan stevens wrote this year's intro. love

I'm in a reading slump. pout

There was a time I was buying 2-4 books a week and that habit had to stop, so I finally slowed down, but now I've gone the opposite direction. I haven't picked up anything good in months. Of course, I can't get to sleep without reading each night, so I've been pulling old favorites off the shelf and re-reading them.
I shall have to remedy that soon.

Libraries are the cheap alternative. Search through your city's library system electronically (a la Amazon.com) and have interesting titles transferred to the branch nearest you.

Save a ton of $$.

Good point. I have a library card. It's a shame I don't use it. I should.

[TIPPING POINT AND BLINK]

Zombie, both of those books are really great reads.

Blink had a lot of great moments that stayed with me, like the whole section on the musical artist Kenna and the music industry -- I thought his theories there were well executed. And the section on Bill Clinton and Action Units was interesting, too. I think you'll really get a kick out of that section. There's some great ideas I really took away from that one. And the ending is CHILLING.

The Tipping Point is great, too. There were a lot of concepts and ideologies that were fascinating. The whole "Stickiness Factor" concept can be applied to so many things. He did a great job of pounding it out with everything from Hush Puppies to the Goetz scandal. I thought that was pretty cool.

"The inheritance of loss" by Kiran Desai.

It's a good read, but nothing spectacular in my opinion.
