If you used the monitor in the back, which is HUGE, you'd drain the batteries in an hour lol. It's much better to use the viewfinder than the monitor. Like Charlotte said it conserves energy and gives you a more exact idea of how the picture will be "cropped", plus you don't get disturbed by sunlight, you can see way more details, you don't get distracted by the surroundings etc etc. The monitor is just for getting a preview of what the finished picture looks like so you know if you got the shot or not. By the way, this thread really does give us a déjà vu feeling. You must have posted almost exactly the same request before, right? With almost the same wording and everything? I'm pretty sure you got good advice back then too, just like you did this time.

If you used the monitor in the back, which is HUGE, you'd drain the batteries in an hour lol. I've never had that issue with using my monitor...the photos end up looking exactly like they did on the monitor (if there's a difference, it's a minor one and one I've never detected)...The battery drain is proberly different but I still get tons of battery time using the monitor. I do prefer the viewfinder, though, just feels more comfortable to me. I use the monitor on mine usually whenever I want to make sure nobody else will suddenly walk into my shot ...or when I want to take a shot from a really low perspective or a higher one. My monitor swivels 90 degrees up and 90 degrees down, so I don't have to lay on the ground to get a lower perspective of my shot, I just swivel the monitor up towards me and lower the camera down towards the ground. Same thing if I want to, say, take a shot over a fence...I raise the camera above the fence and swivel the monitor down towards me. [Edited 10/4/07 7:30am]
