I think they're exactly the same size and weight though. it was D40x - it' just a monster of a lens Oh, I'm going to get the standard 18-55 because I just don't have the money, but I just read this... As I noted with the D40's kit lens, the Nikon D40x's 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G ED II AF-S kit lens exhibited noticeable lens flare in high contrast objects out toward the corners. I think it's perfectly acceptable in a lens at this price point, but still worthy of note. Also an option for a little more money is a kit that bundles the more versatile Nikkor 18-135mm lens that was first bundled with the Nikon D80.

I've been reading the reviews of the D40x and I think it's probably right for me. It'll be my first DSLR so it seems like a decent stepping stone. Looks like Mon will be getting the ol' Olympus. It's the worst possible camera for her because it doesn't have image stabilisation (as you know) and she's always shaking all over the place.

I know I gave Oscar the Olympus to try and he has taken 2 shots in focus so far, and this isn't one of them

That camera isn't actually half bad once you know it inside out, but it's a real pain to use. So slow, so much required to get an in-focus pic, and yet I've captured some images I'm really happy with. You just have to basically stop your heart beating, not be a smoker or drink coffee EVER. I know you feel my pain. You turn the thing on, wait for it, try to petrify yourself in order to take a picture, and the subject or opportunity has already long gone. Hills don't move much though, so it's perfect for landscape pics on sunny days. I like the moon pics I get when I set it manually just right though.

It's funny that at full zoom you can get a pretty detailed, in focus pic of the moon with that camera. It's only because it's set at iso 80 and the moon is fairly bright. If something moves faster than a slug you're screwed though.
