Nobody is outside playing?

I live in Houston, it's a nice day outside. Warm, but no to hot a nice little breeze. I go outside to check the mail, and no kids or nothing are outside playing in the street, riding bikes, tag, red light-green light or anything.

I remember when I was a kid, I was outside every chance I could get. Hell, I'm not even that old, just 20 and I can remember when I was young, always outside doin' something. Playing basketball, football, running for no reason, playing tag, jump rope. Even if there was nothin' to do, I'd make something up. I'd try to dig for some Dinosaur bones or something or dig to China ... anything.

No school today, in my area. But not just today, it was summer a couple of months ago and kids were barely outside.

some of it is lazy parents raising lazy kids...content to let the television or video games occupy their kids...

some of it is a general fear to let kids out unsupervised, even in a neighborhood...things are alot different now...lots of sick, crazy people out there...and neighbors dont watch out for neighbors like they used to..shrug

All true. If people would take the time to get to know their neighbors, they wouldn't have to worry about their kids so much. It takes a whole neighborhood to raise a kid, or at least it used to before everyone decided to be a shut in. confused

I'm in Houston too, and it IS a great day, but the kiddos don't get out of school until 3:00. We have school in CCISD, didn't know HISD was out today.

That's because families don't get to know each other. Currently we know about 3 families on our current street. About 8,9 or 10 years ago when I was younger living on the same street, I knew damn near the whole street. It was about 12 families I knew well.

Why would kids be playing outside?
There's nothing fun out there.
With all the lead-based toys, the new Bionic Woman TV show, being able to play with one's wii & stuff,
inside is where all the actions at.

During the spring here in New Jersey. Down the street I used to see kids outside playing all the time during the spring. Riding their bikes up and down the steet, playing basketball, or just the boys chasing the girls.

But as soon as Summer hit, It was like they disappeard. I was like what the hell? What happened to all the kids? Then I came to realize that it was Summer and it was HOT AS HELL! I'm talkin about in the high 90's and that's hot for NJ.
Some people think I'm kinda cute
But that don't compute when it comes 2 Y-O-U.
