If U R into soccer....

The US women's soccer team made it to the World Cup semi-final! They play tomorrow morning against Brazil. Not many people are into following women and soccer, but if you are, send good energy! Brazil is a tough opponent!

I've heard about this before, that the US women's football team are among the top three in the world. It's interesting considering that the men's team is nowhere near that good. I guess American men are just too into other sports for it to take off?

By the way, is this an old thread? I thought that tournament was over now?

Nah, it's not over. The semi-final round with the US is tomorrow and I'm not sure when the final is. The women have always been awesome. I don't know why there is such a big discrepancy between the women and the men. It is interesting now that you point that out. hmmm

OK, I just asked the soccer expert in my house and his opinion is that America has been on the forefront of pushing for womens' rights. When girls here play soccer as kids it's mixed teams (girls and boys) and it's been that way for a long time. Even when I was a kid and I'm old. lol

Our universities have a law called title 9 that says women must have equal opportunities to play sports at the same level as the men.

BTW the final is Sunday.

I agree. Women's soccer is strong here due the the rights and opportunities for women along with the availability of money. When I was living abroad in Mexico, I tried to play at a local sports club and was denied because I am female. So I played in pick-up games and I was a spectacle to be seen! It was pretty awkward!

My two sons are playing right now too. My husband has played since he was 5 or so. They've been having practice twice a week and this Saturday is the opening day of the season. They have 2 games each. dead

My youngest is the most serious one on his team. The others just kind of run around, lay on the ground, or take 50 water breaks. lol

My husband is coaching the older one. He likes it a lot, but isn't as serious as the younger one.

Results are in: Brazil 4, USA 0
Pretty frustrated by what went down. US coach changes goalie even though starting goalie has been doing well. Shannon Boxx gets ejected from game based on a horrible call. US has to play short. But all in all, Brazil was the better team. Great footwork, quick passing, speed. US needs to change their style of play in order to keep up with the changing game of women's soccer. No more boom ball from the back line!

Oh that was funny although it did get a little overplayed. I remember Gary Lineker commenting on a write up of a US World Cup Match from 1994. Some 'Offencer' hit the 'sphere' into the 'score bag'.

Good Lawd. disbelief
