There are different variables that come into play when deciding whether the shirt should be tucked in. Under no circustances should you tuck a shirt into jeans nor wear a suit with jeans.

just one look at jeremy clarkson confirms that disbelief

Indeed. He also has hair like a burst matress.

These are a given as is Phils "formal in, casual out". My dilemma is work, which is neither. This morning I just looked in the mirror and thought "that'll look better tucked in" and proudly smiled as i tucket myself in and left the house. Dress shirt, no tie or jacket, sleeves neatly folded back a couple of turns, grey slacks (I like to use the term slacks, they are just flat fronted trousers) Diesel soft shoes. maybe I should just fuck it and wear a suit. Or go the other way and accept my vocation - cordoroy jacket with leather elbow patches, farah slacks, socks and sandles geek

Tucking in is fine as long as you never, ever, EVER wear pleated pants.

Rather gladly I can say that even considering the depths of my wardrobe I don't think I could put an outfit like that together without considerable effort.

There was a Simpson's episode where Homer went to teach how to be a good husband and he cut the elbows from one jacket and sowed them to another in order to achieve the perfect "teacher" look lol

I don't know why it is synonymous with teachers! Socks and sandles does equal beard though.

Of course tucking in is ok. In fact it looks great with a fitted (not tight) shirt and flat front slacks. Very modern not old at all.

Agreed. nod

I think it makes a guy look pulled-together, as though he cared what he looked like that day. There are other ways to accomplish that too, but tucking in is an easy start.
