Just had a chat with the Surveyor for a new house we are buying. I was expecting, the usual, comments like the roof leaks, cellar is a bit damp, some of the eaves may need replacing, bathroom needs updating. I was not expecting him to tell me that there is a medieval burial ground in the back garden!

It’s an old house but shit me!! Apparently used to be the site of the local church pre 14th Century and during foundation work next door they found human remains. Some of which extend to (and beyond) the boundary with the property we are buying, ie the back garden.

I can’t get the image of the swimming pool at the end of Poltergeist out of my mind

Plus side, do you think this is worth renegotiating the offer price?

Just as long as it is not an indian buriel ground. I use to own a condo in 1990, that burned down in a massive fire here in Santa Barbara. When we were trying to rebuild, it turned out it was on a ancient indian buriel ground!! It took a year of court battles to be able to get the permit to rebuild!!

as long as you aren't planning on building said swimming pool i think it's kind of neat.
