I honestly can't believe what alotof you said. I always thought Houston people were mean. Atleast the younger modern ones. True you've got that old southern feeling but the younger kids are self ansorbed and the women are hungry for money.

Dallas most interestingly is the most Texan city. The call themselves North Texas Everything in Dallas has to do with Texas. Texas Rangers,Dallas Cowboys,
Dallas Mavericks,Texas Stadium, Bank Of North Texas, they even got The Texas State Fair. I've seen more people talk like "texans" in Dallas than in any other city. SO I don't know what you're talking about when you say Dallas traded it's texasness for it's northerness. See of teh 3 Texas cities Dallas is the most northern. When up northers come to Texas the visit Dallas. It's most like home and this The D all the attention.See Texas is basically a brother to California. Got 3 big citties in a big state. Very wild liberal.Lots of Science and Technology. We love music. Housaton is like LA and Dallas is like San Fransisco. JUst like LA competes with The Bay Area Houston is a rival of Dallas. It's like the jews and muslims in The Middle East. ANd yeah San Fransisco and Dallas are more uptight northen citites. WHile Houston and LA are wilder and let loose.,

And as for Downtown Dallas, it's always had alot more in it than Dwntown Houston. Houston,Dallas, and San Antonio are all southwestern citites. That being they are big and spread out. Unlike Chicago and New York Downtown isn't the center of the cities. Most fun and people are 5 miles away from Downtown all the way out to the suburbs. Dallas being the most northern has more activity in it's downtown. But that's why you really don't see anybody in the downtowns. Nobody lives there. Downtown Houston is worse. Only recently have they ried to build DOwntown Houston up. Until 8 years ago only people you'd see down there were businessmen, jailhouse folks, and homeless people. HOuston has an attitude like and is built liek LA> From what I understand there's isn't muchin LA's downtown either.
Working up a purple sweat.

I used to live in Dallas as well, and that's the closest souther city that is similiar to L.A. The humidity isn't as bad as H-Town though. Also, it's a bit more progressive in Dallas than in Houston, but that may have changed since Houston has built itself up.

I certainly take what you say with some authority. You know more about Texas than I do.

I think my anticipation of what Dallas would be like was thwarted in large part by its modernity. The city's got a lot of relatively new, mid- to late-20th centruy architecture, and what I thought would be sort of a longstanding oil mecca is now overtaken by IT concerns and such. Yet for all of that new industry, it shocked me that the city's core hasn't been bolstered like the northern and coastal cities I'm more familiar with -- at least in terms of living and/or commercial/entertainment districts (the West End is all I can think of immediately). Perhaps it's a function of age: Northern and coastal cities enjoyed thriving cores fairly early on and then a certain suburban sprawl since, say, the 1940s/50s. In the wake of that sprawl, many are now undergoing very ambitious urban core revitalization efforts. Maybe Dallas, being a bit younger and situated in a state that has TONS more undeveloped surrounding area, is still undergoing the suburban outgrowth stage. If this is true (and it's just my theory), perhaps very active efforts to bring people back downtown will commence in, say, the next 10-20 years or so. Should be interesting to watch.

In the meantime, I'll seriously try to ponder the kinship between Dallas and San Francisco. confusehmmhmmm 'Cause the Bay Area knocked me off my feet in the times I've visited!! love ...And I just didn't vibe with Dallas in the least. sad
