One thing that helps for the elderly who have diffficulty swallowing, is using butter/margarine to coat the pill. It slides down easier.
Definitely check with you pharmacist about what pills can and cannot be crushed. "Extended release" (xr) meds shouldn't be. | |

  I don't understand folks who can swallow a pill without water  My brother can take aspirin without water. I don't know how it does it either, because aspirins have a bitter, nasty taste to them. My birth-control pills taste SO horrible, I can't stand 'em.. I always have to swallow them with water..
Because they're so tiny, it doesn't always work and when I realise I haven't swallowed it, I start to panic and wave my hands and gagging.. Look ridiculous..

im glad ur okay True, it would not be fun to suffer the from from arthritis, especially when there's things you can take for it. thats true, my rheumatologist(sp?) said 2 me- if u were diabetic- u would take insulin- so what is the difference? i didnt want 2 take them at first, but came around. eventually with time- my arthritis has stabalised- and im not on as many meds  seems that i was busy doing something close to nothing, but different than the day before   | |
