You hired MOVERS? Girl, good for you! You're my hero.

Next time, I SWEAR TO GAWD, I'm doing that.

I sympathize. I'm the worst procrastinator in the world. It's my least-favorite thing about myself. pout

You have no idea how excited I am to watch people carry all of my stuff up two flights of stairs while I sip a water or smoke a cigarette in the alley.

I found a good deal on craigslist of a couple guys who have a truck and do this for extra money. I called their references, all sounds good, they showed up on time, charged what they said they would, etc. They have everything, the truck, blankets, etc. And my parents are kicking in as a moving present, so that was very nice of them. smile

OK, here's the post that got lost...

I'm currently avoiding packing. neutral

I'm slowly doing the things I need to do to move. I've gone through my desk, my storage space and my bathroom and thrown out 6 bags of "things", packed up 5 boxes of books, filled my backpacking pack and carry-on luggage with clothes, filled 3 bags of clothes for goodwill, but I'm just not motivated. I worry about what I'll need out and available for the next week. I do one thing for 20 minutes and then stall by smoking or finding a new CD to listen to, or checking in on the org.

I think I work better under pressure. I'll probably be packing like a demon next Saturday until the movers get here Sunday at 2pm.

What motivates you in silly chores?

I don't know.

A bit... redface

I've gone through everything for donation and brought everything to good will I'm going to bring. I've packed a box of kitchen stuff. All of my jewelry-type accessories are in a thing. Every suitcase I own is full of clothes.

Darin's gonna come over next Friday night and we're gonna have a packing party so I can be done with whatever's left and make it to the curry festival on Saturday. woot!

I may even get my pillows made this week.

Muffin! Don't ever lose the ciggies. A simple wave of one ciggie could indicate so much more displeausre than just screaming.

Itallicise as many words as you can. Don't say "The couch should go there"...

Say "Really... You may be accustomed with the nearest Flop House but I absolutely can't really allow your positioning of my furniture to give me a head-ache. And I feel a twinge occurring forthwith via your cadaverous countenance."

I feel bad enough hiring someone to move my stuff. redface I'm generally a save money, do-it-yourself kinda girl. That and it's been good and cathartic going through things to throw away and such.

you get to your new house and find they moved your computer boxes empty
and transported your computer in a regular box and now the hard drive is toast. neutral
oh and it takes forever to find all your stuff again.

i hire movers but at the rate they charge i carry as much stuff as they do.
they always ask if i want to join their company smile whew no thanks.

Oh my eek

I, too, am a procrastinator. However, having moved a few times in the last few years I can tell you there's nothing like knowing the movers are coming the next day & having shit all over the place omfg Even when you think you're doing fine, you're not imo lol

I'm begging you - get a huge sharpie & label every box according to room & (brief) contents. It's a lifesaver. & pack your little heart out well in advance - the only thing you need to leave out is clothes for a few days, essential toiletries, IPod, stuff like that. The problem w/ waiting is when you're pressed against the wall you'll be putting things wherever they'll fit (b/c you WILL run out of boxes in the middle of the night) & then you won't be able to find jack shit b/c it'll take you days to unpack.

Oy, I'm skurred boxed

Another thing to be aware of w/ movers (though these guys might not do it but most companies do) - there's a minimum charge & there's an incremental charge (if you go over the hour, every 15 minutes usually) & there's a charge for the distance between the pickup & drop off points. So on the one hand it's great having some dudes do the hard work for you, but you will be watching the clock when it comes down to it. So pack smart! Good luck smile

Thanks!

I'm labeling well as I go and doing my best to organize and throw out as well. I've actually taken the entire week off of work after I move Sunday to get my apartment in order. I'll have 3 full days of that and then I'll have some friends visitng who are staying with me. Which is why I'm so stressed! lol I know they don't care, but *I* care how my apartment looks for guests.

As for the movers, they are charging me a flat rate for use of their truck and hourly for the move part, no minimum. They quoted me a reasonable estimate (they gave me a range) and their references all said they stuck to their estimate, so I'm confident it will go well, though I will be making sure they aren't slacking around.

SOme things I am pretty good about motivating myself. The HARDEST one is working on music. I go through "long stretches" of more than a month when working on my solo material. I have to really work myself into an artistic mode so I can create. Thing is once I do sit down a bunch of stuff pours out and I am a work-a-holic. But it's getting down to work on it that gets me.

Now my partner on the other hand makes procrastination into an art form.

Yea, that's pressure to have guests so soon after moving. But they know what they're in for so don't feel bad about putting them to WORK lol Unless you have a bare bones amount of stuff you'll need their help. Hope it all goes well biggrin

Anxiety

i usually procrastinate and put off responsibilities as long as i can.

though this morning, i think i was possessed by Bizarro Anx:

i woke up early, promptly did two loads of laundry, washed all the dishes, made FIVE phone calls i was dreading, and had time left over to take a nap before i had to be at work this afternoon.

that ain't my usual style. lol

so you know...i guess sometimes motivation just smacks you in the head for no reason. shrug
