I want a mac sooooo damned bad.

I'm waiting on OS-X leopard though, as I don't want to buy something then shell out the extra money to install the new OS, which from what I've seen so far is drool worthy.

I bought my iBook about a month before Tiger came out -- and the new OS was included in the purchase. (Apple mailed it to me when it was released.)

Think about it -- they don't want to lose sales in the here and now because folks are waiting for an OS upgrade. Check with your Apple store. Since the release of Leopard is only about a month away, I'm 99.9% sure it'll be included in your purchase -- no charge.

I didn't even know what Leopard was until right now, but thanks for mentioning it. I'll ask the Apple Store to throw me a copy when it comes out. They were verrrrry generous when it came to discounting add-ons.

The only thing I couldn't use was my serial-port HP printer. BUT, I bought an HP color printer/scanner/copier for $99, which came with a $99 rebate so ultimately it will be free.

All peripherals have to connect via USB. And therein lies my only iMac complaint (so far) - only 3 USB ports. Not enough, since the mouse and keyboard take up two of them.

I want to get an iMac myself, but I don't have an extra $1000 lying around my house. sad But have you considered getting a Mac Mini? They're supposed to be about $600 to $700 dollars. They don't come with any monitors, keyboards or mice, but they're supposed to work with standard peripherals, so this may be a more cost-effective way to get the Mac experience.

I just bought a macbook this weekend. I went with the cheapest one (1099) cause I don't need to burn DVDs and don't need the added harddrive space, etc.

It still runs very very smoothy eek

I'm diggin OS-X alot, and love the visual affects and how seemless they are, even though I won't be using it for anything fancy.

One quick question: Is there any damned way to maximize the view of an application? I find it annoying to have to resize it manually.

I'll say so far, I'm very enamored by my mac, and if Apple continues along the right path, I may end up being a mac user for the foreseeable future.

(this message was typed on my PC though giggle )

To maximize, you hit the little '+' sign in the upper right, next to the close and minimize buttons.

Give it two weeks, you won't wanna touch that PC. wink

I'm so in lust with my new MacBook. love

This is just my second day, and I like it better than my PC already.

Though I don't care for PAGES (iwork 08 version). I don't hate it, but Word 2007 has some very good quick formatting features that pages lacks. This is no biggie though, as I'm sure Apple will keep improving on it. I'm just bein biased cause I'm a pretty advanced user in the MS Office bloatware world. shrug

So, I own the M-Audio music keyboard that they sell at the Macstore and Compusa. Am I correct in assuming that all I need to do is plug it in and it will work with garage band straight away?

I haven't used that keyboard, but I would imagine you just plug it in. I'm sure you don't need drivers or anything like that. Sounds like fun. smile I have a piano with MIDI output, and the cables I need and stuff, but I haven't played around with it in GarageBand yet. Their piano voices sound pretty nice, though.

I've only used Pages a bit (and Keynote even less, and Numbers not at all, though I'm looking forward to trying them out more). I like it so far, but then again, I HATE Word, and I don't need advanced formatting. . all of those gorgeous templates in Pages will be good enough for what I do with WP, and when I need actually page layout, I'll go Adobe.

I think that once you're used to wading around in shit, you don't smell it anymore, which is why Microsoft products continue to be popular. lol

Oh for the most part, I love my mac.

It's just with word, the spelling feature, the formatting the features, and the like appear just above highlighted text. As weird as this sounds, because I type so fast, it actually greatly increases my ability to type text. Plus the Office VBA macro language is something I'm largely familiar with. I'm not sure what the mac equivilant is but I guess I'll find out.

The benefits I've seen just in the last two days with the mac are:

1) It's sexy
2) the visual effects are stunning. Transitions, transparencies, etc. etc. etc. all look amazing.
3) The extreme ease in which you install programs. It's like you download them and voila, they work.

and of course, not having to deal with clunky registry hive. I absolutely HATE the windows registry and couldn't believe that VISTA, after being delayed one billion years, didn't get rid of the need to have it.
