iTunes question I've just bought an 80Gb ipod and am starting to import my cd collection ... I was wondering if anybody has got any advice on what import preference setting I should use. I've tried using the AIFF encoder setting on a couple of cds and the files were massive.
I'm probably going to go for AAC encoder 256 kbps but was hoping to get some advice before I start as I've got a lot of cds to get through ! cheers Rob

I don't have an iPod but I just use Lame MP3 VBR5 for my mp3 player.

I use ACC at 160kbps. I canĀ“t distinguish that from higher rates. You could imporet a couple songs of different styles in 128, 160 and 192/256 and listen back. Then you decide.
At 128 kbps you could have more than 18000 songs. Maybe you don't need that many.

I think it's important to listen to the tracks outside. The ambient traffic noise when walking down a street or riding on a bus is louder than you'd imagine. Listening to music on headphones outside isn't the same as listening to music on headphones at home. You can stand to lower the bit-rate if you're going to be listening to the tracks whilst commuting.

f you have an 80g it likely too much, as you wont want to fill you computer space with your entire music catalog.
so just download stuff you really like, which im sure will be alot of songs and entire albums too. it cab get tire some flipping through all the album/artist titles in order to find what you looking for on your ipod.

Thanks for the replies. I've listened with headphones to songs imported with different settings and am going for AAC 256 bps. Sounds pretty good quality and doesn't take up too much memory.
