So yesterday after my lunch time run I go change back into my work clothes in the bathroom. I leave my Chanel sunglasses on the paper towel dispenser and don't realize until an hour later. Gone. I know a med student is walking around with them on their head and it makes me sick to my stomach. They were my favorite and I bought them 3 years ago.

I decided to buy a new pair. They cost me $417.00 and I love love love them. Not as much as my old pair, but these are very close. My co-workers think I'm nuts and I know it is a big expense for sunglasses...but I love them! I don't have children, I work hard and I feel like I deserve them. I gave up my expensive clothes and pocket book fetish, I am only left with the sunglasses fetish.

Am I crazy? Do you guys have that certain something you HAVE to HAVE? Another friend I work with said she'd spend that on a set of dishes so she can't fault me. Why am I trying to justify this?

I hope whoever took my glasses has bad karma forever. I've found ipods and wallets in that bathroom and have always returned them to their rightful owners. It's just what you do.

If you divide $417.00 into 156 weeks (3 years), you average $2.67 per week to pay for those glasses. How much does one coffee cost?

Did you try to buy them cheaper on-line? Mau Jim sunglasses can be purcased for less if you know what style you want.....

I take it you exhausted the lost and found, security route,etc. in case they were turned in. I would have posted a sign in the bathroom that stated you lost your glasses and a work # you can be reached. Maybe the person would return them if they knew who to call.
I'd also fill out a report on the item with security, as they're valuable. When you run across the person who has them, it may help.

But, I know how I treat my $20 pairs.

I've dropped twice that $400 for guitars some would argue (and did argue) I didn't need.

We all have that "thing" that tugs at our money.

But, once it gets into the hundreds range, I start thinking about debts, bills and investments. It's just me. I start hearing Dave Ramsey's voice in my head.

I just paid 3K for a camera, hope I love that as much as you love your sunnies!

I always buy generic brand everything, and $3 sunglasses, so when I want the thing I want I feel justified - like you never get take-out coffess. I think it is fair.

I'm still looking at the damn D40x. I have a feeling that if I get it I'll wish I had spent a bit more, but the D80 is still out of my range.

I looked at the D40, but the lens I was getting was way heavier than the body of the camera, it seems flimsy and hollow (in comparison to the D80), and is a step down from the D50 featurewise, I got the D80
I have a D50 for sale though it's a great camera, very robust comes with 2 lenses:
18-55, and 70-300, bag that fits the lot, and spare battery!

I'm a bit wary of some of the prices I see in Thailand sometimes, though as I understand it Nikon actually has factories out here.

That pic is from early in the year. I've seen the 40x for the price of the 40 there, and the D80 for around 42k.

Do you like the camera so far? Is the extra money worth it if I really am on a tight budget (I'd have to move heaven and earth)?
