Cylons: Pure Evil or Misguided?

I look upon the Cylons as misguided.

Ever since the close of season 3, or even the beginnings of season 3, we've seen a development in their characters. They operate as a purer democracy than humans, always weighing things up and mutually deciding. It seems though, that despite their apparent inhumanity, they are such well-made entities that they end up facing an inner-struggle - the sanctity of life, belief in a God, how best to resolve issues.

The cynic can argue that the Cylons are merely programmed to respond like this in order to better their collective judgement and decision-making, but I disagree. Especially seeing as 2 of them have been put in cold-storage due to what their self-exploration has done to their character. They became "too human."

It raises interesting possible future ethical dilemmas in regards to robot rights. Do we give robots rights for appearing 100% human, even though in reality they are not, and merely programmed to pretend to be?

What's your verdict: evil, or making bad decisions as they explore themselves?

Alternatively we can revel in how fit Caprica 6 and Gaius Baltar are, but I'd rather discuss the above.

I would have to concur with your viewpoint with regards to the cylons, I also think the humans are such a superficial race that a robot that looks cute or cuddly is likely to be treated differently to an evil looking robot regardless of its inner design or reason for operating.
It's a mess, ain't it, sheriff?

the original cylons were just neutral, they simply wanted to restore order to the universe, the pesky humans needed exterminating to do that.

nod Like Helio's blind love for Boomer Sharon in the initial 2 seasons when she was still evil (she could still be evil now - we never know).

I just think the original had nothing like the depth of the current. I've tried so hard to get into it, but it's just kitsch.
