There may have already been a thread about this, but oh well...who was your childhood hero? Mine was Adrian Dantley. I idolized him to no end, trying to emulate his every move, including free throw routine. I would spend hours every day playing b-ball outside, not permitting myself to quit until I had scored 200 points for Adrian. I would defiantly and incessantly discuss his statistics with my peers who liked younger, more flashy players instead.

He played for my hometown Pistons from 1986-1989. In February, 89, I head that he was traded to Dallas. The news came as a shock to me, and upon having the news confirmed by my mom at school, I collapsed into her arms, sobbing. I never fully forgave the Pistons, being that he was traded midway through their first championship season and never won a championship.

Adrian is also criminally underrated. How could such a potent offensive threat (one of four players in the history to average over 30 ppg in 4 consecutive seasons) not only be anually snubbed by the Hall of Fame, but also snubbed by the Utah Jazz who are content to retire Mark Eaton's jersey (and Jeff Hornacek's ) but will not retire Dantley's. He was not included in the list of greatest 50 players of all time, despite the fact that he at one point was ninth on the all-time scoring list.

He is responsible for introducing me to one of my greatest passions- basketball. Without it, who knows what other outlets I would have chosen to pursue? I owe a lot to him and his example.

Suske & Wiske rocked.
They traveled through time so often that The Teletijd Machine worked overtime.
I especially liked the Blue Series, where Wiske had curls, instead of that silly eghead hairdo.
My fave ever? De Schat Van Beersel. It had knights, witches and mystery. What more can a child want?

I must say... my cousin Nicky stands out in mind... I always looked up to her when I was a kid... She's 6 years older than me... and yeah, she was a Goddess to me.. she really couldn't do anything wrong.. not in my eyes anyway, at the time. She always used to let me play with her make-up... and she used to style my hair etc etc... I think I was her barbie doll.. or fashion project.. or something! I didn't mind!

I was always "Nicky this, Nicky that" I wanted to be just like her .. up until about 11 anyway... then she immigrated... and the childlike fascination kind of waned after that.

However we now live in the same country, and she's still the awesome girl she always was.. mother of two now!

She actually got to see Prince when he was in Australia, (like a century ago or something )... and she doesn't even really like him, go figure! Such is life eh?!

She gave me all the memorabilia from the concert though.. ... can't complain about that Ok.. so I kind of got off topic there towards the end... forgive me *grin*

Shawn Michaels, for the longest time.


Then, in about 1997, I began idolizing an Arizona Wildcat by the name of Miles Simon. I don't suppose he was too great of a role model, other than he played basketball quite well.


When Shane Battier's college basketball years started, Shawn Michaels was quickly replaced. Battier is a great role model for anybody! I even tried changing my basketball jersey number from 15 to 31, but someone else already had it. And I don't care what anybody says, Shane is beautiful!

My heros where anyone that would go against what was wrong. A had the courage to stand up for what is Right. Martin Luther. Malcolm X. Muhammed Ali, Mother Theresa. Etc. Helping others in the pocess helps also.
